Useless!! Regardless of the penalty miss (put that down to the players leaving it to him) - he doesn’t offer enough. He offers no movement in the box, hangs at the back post requiring an inch perfect pass from our wingers, strikers should do more. Personally think we played better without him.

I can't let the penalty cloud my judgement, it was a ridiculous and unforgivable decision, but assessing whether or not we should sell our only striker goes way beyond that. It was a feeble penalty and why we chose to take the risk at that minute I'll never know but, still, anyone can miss a penalty. The problem is, I don't think Benteke is anywere near as useless of a player as some make him out to be but you either build a system around his type of striker or he's ineffective. It's as simple as that for me. Roy Hodgson clearly likes to play a high intensity game, especially at home, and Benteke simply isn't agile enough and doesn't press enough to make a big enough impact in this system. I don't think for one second think Benteke is a bad player and I certainly don't think we should sell him, his aerial ability is undoubted for me, but he is a target man plain and simple and when we play on the front foot he is ineffective. It can't just be Wilf looking to get in behind and run at defenders every time, but Benteke just doesn't give the opposition anything else to think about or concentrate on when it's on the floor. I like the system Roy plays at home, we genuinely play some defent stuff but we actually looked a lot more dangerous when we didn't have a fit striker (who would've thought). The energy and runs Townsend & Wilf made in behind seemed to cause the opposition so many more problems. Wilf can't always do it on his own and as much as I like Benteke, sadly with him in the team it restricts the danger of Wilf - and he's the player, if anyone, we should be building the team around. The thing is that every single one of Benteke's attempts to finish recently has been as feeble as his penalties. You look at him in scoring situations and you just know it's going to lack any conviction.
