My opinion is that he didn't leave because Batshuayi's signing was so close to midnight. Had they done the job earlier and been sure Batshuayi would sign, Wichkam would have been loaned out. Now he's stuck here until the summer and we'll see how little gametime he will get.

It's quite usual for a club to have four strikers, even if they regularly play one up front. Priority is to keep Wickham uninjured as we will need him next season when the two loaned strikers return.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Wickham is crocked again' by bexleydave So it transpires (so my spies tell me) that the reason we went for the Batsman so late in the day is that Wickham has got injured again in training this week, hence his non appearance on the bench and it's being kept quiet for the time being. Bummer.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Wickham is crocked again' by bexleydave Well sorry for Connor if this is true. And hardly a surprise. But lets not forget that Palace were in for Solanke from the first day of the transfer window. That suggests that there was always a requirement to get another striker in. The deal for Batshuayi appears to have been offered to us by Chelsea rather than us going looking for it.

Given that fact, plus benteke’s issues in front of goal I think getting another forward in was always part of the plan. Hats off to Parish and co for getting this one over the line.

CW is the best non-Batshuayi striker we have. But he's hurt constantly. Ideally, we ride Bats this season, then get rid of Benteke/Wickham/Ayew in the off-season, and replace them with two halfway decent strikers. Really, I'm so sick of hoping CW will be healthy. He won't. He never will. He has proven it over and over. Same with Benteke's ability to "regain his old form". He won't. He never will. Batshuayi will show us what a real striker looks like, for future reference.
