FFS. Can't you tell the difference between people that are innocently just being themselves in consensual relationships and people that abuse children. Jeeze, maybe it simply isn't worth defending this site. I'm asking a question you plumb

Is it? How many professional footballers have ever come out (before, during or after their careers)? Fashanu was one, but any others? How many professional rugby players (apart from Gareth Thomas) likewise? I've played with lots of footballers and none are gay. I would've heard that they are gay and came out if they did at some point. I doubt any have had any homosexual encounters either. 2 spit roasted a cheap sl&g who had little respect for herself once but that's as close as they got to each other. I knew a load of rugby players through someone I knew and none of them were gay. It was just one club of a few XV's mind you but not one gay man. I've worked with 2 or more gay men. Can remember 2 in different places. May be more but it's no big issue so may have forgotten of any other(s). One gay man in an all male environment used to get 'woo hoo' and 'cooey' all the time but he took it and I'd say encouraged it with the camp sailor ring tone on his phone. Helps being respected on merit too.

You of course wrote thanking him for sharing his story and commiserating on his difficulties. You then picked up on his point about people being randomly abusive upsets innocent bystanders and agreed that is just not on. Or... Your only response was implying not being abusive about homosexuals out of concern for others is the same as not being abusive to paedophiles. You damson.

I have not commented on the thread since Thursday, as you can see from my history that I do not comment on many threats. I am more interested in viewing transfer news and general news for my club. My main hope it we progress in the league. But since I saw the documentary I felt I wanted as many CPFC fans to see it for its overall message. I also wanted any abusive messages removed. As Brighton are in the premier league next season, there will be increased spotlight against homophobic chants, and I do not want my club to be the centre of this and if we are having this discussion before the start of the season to change views, it is all the better. I am pleased that most posts are against homophobic messages on all sites, and I feel that this is clear the majority CPFC fans. But there are some posts that do concern me regarding that this is still banter and I would like to mention the impact of indirect discrimination. As background, the first FA cup final I saw on TV at the age of 11 was CPFC vs MUFC, and this is how I became a CPFC supporter. (My father & mother did not have not club, but my granddads were Arsenal and Leicester fans, but the 3-3 final meant I was for CPFC) I have been to CPFC matches over the years, but my last match was the meeting at the AMEX in 2013 vs Brighton. The level for homophobic language was the highest I heard. Away from CPFC. I have been physically attacked (which included verbal discrimination) in the street twice in Brighton 2001 and in 2009 (I live in Brighton) for being gay (because of holding hands with my partner on a Saturday night), by some groups of young men, I needed medical treatment and so did they and reported to the police. To be clear I am no way saying that this is CPFC fans or even football fans. Considering the attacks and because what I heard in my season ticket year and at the AMEX, I did not renew my season ticket and I have not seen a match live since, even though the two are not linked. This is because I can be home and watch matches and not have the possibility of hearing something that will make be uncomfortable. Indirect homophobia banter between straight men on a match day, does not affect them. But to the 5%-10% of the population, that are gay, this does have an impact, and does influence the decisions they make. Such as coming out as a player or going to matches. I expect every gay man or women have heard the banter used directly towards them in a very personal way. Everyone in life should consider, not what am I saying to the person I am talking to, but who is also hearing and seeing what I am saying, and the possible unknown impact on them. Massive respect for posting, back on page 9 i posted regarding how i knew of someone also deeply effected by homophobic 'banter'. It must be deeply saddening to have to turn your back on the things you enjoy and love because of how others have made you feel. I implore everyone to try to understand how other gay or lesbian fans would feel should a chores of homophobic chanting break out during this seasons games. It really is time for it to stop. Lets not go from being the best fans in the league to the worst. We can out sing every team without this bulls***.
