gripes me about WH is that he always does the same STUPID dive for every shot. he half heartedly jumps and if you watch him its like he freezes mid air and just hits the floor. Watch the top Keepers in this league, they manipulate their body during the dive to get the best reach. Seen him do it time and time again and he's the ONLY keeper I've seen use this weird dive. Yep, I've noticed that. If it's not that mannequin flying through the air pose, he's normally sunk on his knees with that gornless look of 'oh no, it's happened AGAIN!' Utter embarrassment at this level hence a massive thread on him!

Seen the first goal. Clear foul on Hennessey. He goes up to make a simple catch, gets clattered by Sunderland forward who is nowhere near the ball, ball is dropped and is whacked in off the post. I can't see what ref Marriner was thinking to allow it. My thoughts at the time and haven't changed my mind since - but not mentioned on MOTD or anywhere - aside from Shearer saying he should have punched it - WTF?

It wasn't a foul. It was a 50/50. They went into each other. Wayne had the added advantage of arms length too. 100% goalkeeping howler.

Makes no difference now but I saw it as a clear foul.
We move in the direction of our thoughts. |

WH goes to catch the ball and as he does is barged into by Jones and subsequently drops the ball. Contrary to what people on here say, I don't think WH is a great keeper, just the best we have at present. In fact if you look at the 'We need a keeper' thread, I did say a few days ago that we need to get a new keeper in the summer as none of the present 3 are good enough. All keepers make errors - it's the nature of the job that any mistakes are highlighted. Fraser Forster is a great keeper but made that horrendous error against us and let is one at his near post on Saturday. Petr Cech gifted Chelsea a goal with a dreadful clearance on Saturday. We all know the mistakes Joe Hart made for England. I don't like the way WH dives for the ball - he does seem too rigid with both arms stretched out as if he doesn't quite know where the ball is going. However, the alternatives are no better. You all go on about Speroni - I suppose the younger ones on here don't remember a time before he was in goal - but he isn't the answer. Doesn't dominate his area, flaps at the ball and pushes shots straight out for tap-ins. In his last 14 league games he hasn't had a single clean sheet. Mandanda seems rooted to his line when he plays, and a lot of the goals he conceded were eminently stoppable. Let's got for a new keeper in the summer but for now let's not have this abuse for one of our players.

Doesn't mean to say if an elbow is raised in a challenge it is automatically a foul.Elbows are raised all the time when players are trying to get leverage to attack a ball in the air just like when Alonso and Bellerin clashed. I cannot help thinking that if we had a goal disallowed for a foul on a keeper in similar circumstances there would be loud cries of "Goalkeepers are over-protected" etc etc and the referee would be pilloried.
