PALACE CLOSE TO PVA DEAL 12:26 SSN Crystal Palace hope to complete the signing of Patrick van Aanholt from Sunderland this week, according to the London Evening Standard. Reports suggest Palace are close to agreeing a deal thought to be worth an initial £9million for the left-back which will see the player reunite with Sam Allardyce.

This would hopefully sort out our very weak left side and bring some confidence to our defence and team. Now for some steel in midfield and we might be okay.

Brilliant news if true, I will wait for the picture with the shirt before I get too excited.

This guy is awful and Sunderland fans are not to disheartened he is going. Surely if he was any good, they wouldn't be offering to drive him to our club. For the odd goal and assist he is a complete liability at the back. Complete waste of money and I look forward to the first 'Patrick Van Aanholt PALACE TALK' thread where we slag him off and offer to drive him to the next overpaying club!

He is certainly not the greatest left back we have ever had but surely anythings a big upgrade on Kelly? Kellys just like the slower, worse at attacking and defending version of Aanholt. As other posters have suggested in other threads, this is a player that actually wants to come to us and that is a rarity in itself. For the position we are in and the money we can spend, this is probably one of the best left backs we can sign. Edited by Eagle123456 (24 Jan 2017 2.20pm)

If Allardyce, who knows a thing or two about setting up a defence, thinks PVA is a decent target for us, then I'll trust him over the Sunderland fans. He's been playing in a Sunderland team that have been a shambles for years; and for a long time Dann has looked pretty crap in our underperforming team, even though we know he's got quality.

Get a load of Captain Bringdown They may be right, they may be wrong, but I'm relying on SA knowing a bit more about what we need than the dwellers in the Stadium of s***e, until I see evidence otherwise. There were plenty on here who rated the sale of Bolasie as the equivalent of venting a turd, but we're still working on replacing him.

Not the best but plays well under Allardyce to be fair.

If he comes, it will give strength down the left, I would not take much notice of what Sunderland fans are saying, hardly going to say he is a good when he wants to leave. Suggest we trust Sam et-al and look upon this as a positive for the team, he must have some very good qualities and no one is perfect!

Greate news , so let us have a holding midfielder as well and then we should be satisfied for this window.

It's a strange one. Must be indication that Allardyce wants 4 at the back and not go with the 3-5-2 of the Everton game. Because we probably wouldn't be signing PVA otherwise and also the 3-5-2 doesn't accommodate wingers and most importantly Wilf. Therefore looks like a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1 with left side being PVA and Schlupp. The most important positions to fill in my opinion are RB and CB. Ward (sadly) isn't good enough and neither is Delaney and probably Tomkins (but perhaps we'll see with him). Shame we didn't go all out for Fonte. Him and Dann would have been a great pairing and Fonte is also a leader which we are lacking currently too. I do think with Schlupp & PVA it looks like a solid, overlapping and quick left side.
