Worrying that we couldn't even score against McCarthy!

Now we see the folly of only having 7 defenders in the 25 and letting any promising youngsters be sold or go out on loan. Presumably either Ben Wynter or Phillips will have to be in the squad on Saturday.

Dann, Delaney, Tomkins, Ward, Kelly, Souare is 6.

Oh yeah, waste of space fryers.

From what I have read, the performance was dire and the "Fringe" players never covered themselves in glory. Why am I not surprised ? Absolutely diabolical and I feel sorry for our supporters who travelled down there to witness absolute dross.Worrying times.

We might be back on song for a poor Sunderland though. But it does rest on having 4 defenders and back up, which might mean Ledley being shifted to LB. And then Tomkins could be back for Everton so fingers crossed we might just get by. 1 more injury or inexcusable red card and we'll have problems.

Pray for them to recover fast.

And look at our strike force. Apart from Benteke, we have Wickham who is always injured, Remy who is injured and Fraizer Campbell. I don't consider Anderson, Ladapo and Jonathan Benteke as really pushing for PL places but they might get there with more experience.

I'm not confident at all that we will get anything from Sunderland.

Pardew saying Chungy was 'Terrific' tonight, SORRY WHAT!?! I don't want to single him out because 90% of our performance tonight was s***e and Lee was by far not the worst of the bunch but what is the point in falsely praising somebody who was in the team predominantly to create and when we don't get a single shot on target until the 82/3rd minute saying he was terrific! He was average at best neat and tidy and clearly highly technical but everything sideways and uninventive nowhere near terrific, Townsend on Sunday is what terrific creative and attacking play looks like. I get managers have to protect their players and deflect a little but terrific is a joke description he clearly can't actually believe that was terrific or the man is deluded! Sometimes Al just needs to learn to shut up does he not think we have eyes or something terrific is an insult to our intelligence and perception and most importantly the poor b******s that travelled to southampton on a weeknight to watch that drivel. I know it's just a word but it riled me up the lack of honesty, you want a better connection with the fans, don't feed us such disrespectful bollocks. In my eyes such blatant lying he might as well just of come out and said you're all morons and don't know what a good performance looks like so i'm going to deflect from my own failings and the failings of my players by prevaricating a horses*** opinion to you all with not even a hint of irony.

RDWEagle would you rather AP just slated all the players pmsl. That'll really get them motivated. You do understand that even the shoddy fringe players may be needed from now until January/end of season. Lee may not have been amazing but as i have said before, at least it looked as if he was trying which is a damn sight more than some of them. It may be also that Pardew is trying to repair relations with a player which has a bit of a fractured relationship with Pardew and needs a bit of a confidence boost. The player (my opinion) has tried for every game he has come on for so far and he is a decent squad player.

Didn't say that, but yes actually I would there is more than one way to motivate somebody, getting players fired up with some home truths is not always the worst thing to do. And actually they should already be highly motivated; by the huge salary they pick up weekly, putting on the palace shirt and being able to do for a living what most of us would lose a bollock for. But back to my point, I was more getting at that I feel it is completely wrong to single anymore out for undeserving exaggerated compliments and it's insulting to the fans, who I don't care what level or competition it is, deserve better. You talk about motivating players but what does false praise do for anyone, yes he tries hard but should Lee be pleased with that performance? Is that the level he should strive for? Can he expect to be a starter or indeed a prem player at all at that level? By AP calling him terrific you're in tern implying the answer to all the above questions be yes, when that simply isn't an honest assessment. Also on motivating players how does that motivate Wilf for example to give his all every game when Chungy gets praise for an uninspiring performance, when the manager is so openly hard on him.

What you fail to take into consideration is that everyones needs a different approach when it comes to man management. So many people are banging on about individual performances tonight but we made 7 changes from the weekend so how can the likes of Cabaye and even Fryers be judged against those that played on Saturday in a full strength team.AP picking out a positive rather than burying his head in his hands after a performance like that is exactly what I want to see as its down to the manager to raise the spirits and get everyone up for Sunderland.Start slating individuals or blaming bad luck with injuries and everyone starts feeling sorry for themselves and the spirit we rely on is lost. When you consider the luck we have had since January with key players it is mind boggling.Since the window closed its been Remy a few days after we manage to get the deal done,Souare in a car crash followed 10 days later by Tomkins in his home debut and Dann 3 days after that. Not one manager can legislate for that it makes it nigh on impossible for AP when he is desperately trying to improve the squad and the way we play to ensure we keep moving forward. It would be easy to focus the media on our bad luck in his interviews but the players read the papers and watch Sky Sports too and that feeling sorry for ourselves attitude is the last thing that needs to be in the players heads come Saturday.Im sure people will overlook this kind of thing when they debate AP and how good he is as a manager but he never complained when he was at Mike Ashleys Circus and he has never looked sorry for himself here even when we couldn't buy a win.

I get the different player different approach thing completely I was just trying to demonstrate my point. I am all for picking out the positives, and am usually one of the first to do so, at the end of the day I love palace I don't enjoy criticising them. But there is a difference between picking the positives and falsifying them, would you really agree Lee was 'Terrific'?

Anyway I just want a bit more honesty from AP something along the lines of 'We all know tonight wasn't good enough and we are all hurting because of that, Southampton were good but we flattered them. Nobody was at the level tonight, not the level I set as the manager or the level they hold themselves too as superbly gifted professionals. We ARE and WILL be better than that, we take the pain from tonights defeat and heart from Sundays TERRIFIC win in the league to our next game at Sunderland where we will leave it all on the pitch to get a result that our fans deserve'. I am no speech writer but that to me is a much more honest frank assessment, giving the players a kick up the arse whilst not being too scorning or highlighting individuals. As well as trying to take a relatively positive outlook into the next game at the same time as expressing to the fans it was far from good enough. (That would have got a lot more respect from me, and also includes the correct use of the word terrific.) However I am just one fan with an opinion.

I totally agree. He also did it a few weeks back with Wickham. Said he thought he was terrific when the general consensus was he was poor! He's not been terrific at all this season! It smacks of desperation at times and it is annoying he thinks the fans are silly and don't know an average/poor performance when we see one because we're not "in the game". It makes him look stupid at times as does his tactics/team selections and substitutes.

We're the red and blue army!!
