I'd like to put some extra emphasis on that third goal to everyone who has repeatedly questioned a)Dwight Gayle's place in the team and b)Murray's ability to step up to the PL None better than that goal all season, and against the top side in the league on the night. take nothing away from Gayle and the performance to come back from 3-0 last night, but Gayle still has lot to do to prove himself as a Prem class striker and for the club to justify the spend on him. I'm still open minded about him and really want him to be a success here but he needs to do more than have one good subs appearance. I do think that Murray and Gale could be the answer as the one big man up front (Chamakh) isn't going to work when he's so isolated. Also Murray usually finds another player when the ball is played up to his head whereas Cham flicks on to nobody (probably down to playing on his own. At least we know we have a couple of systems we can play.

Dwight is on a four year contract. Time will tell. The big thing for me last night was that - and even excluding the goals - for that last 15 minutes he looked like he really belonged at this level and that's the first time honestly I have seen it. I'm taking about positioning and awareness and sheer determination. Yes I remember the Sunderland and Villa games but i'm talking about a chunk of the game not just an instant. *applauds* Edited by Kermit8 (06 May 2014 9.47am)

Gayle and Murray looked they understood eachother very well. Maybe from playing with eachother in the development squad. It's hard to put both these in the starting 11, as we will miss CHam. Something like this? ----------Speroni---------

We saw it at Peterborough, and we always knew it at Palace, even from the warm-up at the Crawley friendly: Gayle can finish. Tonight he was able to take advantage of a tired, confused, frankly dreadful spell of Liverpool defending, but for the rest of the season his movement has not been Prem quality. If we use him as a final 20-minute destroyer next season, whilst training him on his movement, he could be a great player.
Why don't you read what I said? He's a Premiership quality finisher but his movement and ability to cope with the physicality have been insufficient generally. The situation at the end of the game tonight was perfect for him but if he'd played from the start, he wouldn't have affected the game in anything like the same way. As far as Dwight's physicality, I'm confident TP will be looking at this in the close season (as well as Joniesta's) and have some sort of program so it doesn't impede on the skill levels.
The pyramid to beat all pyramids!! Find out what team is in which division, eg which division is Coppull United in? |

I thought Murrays assist for the equaliser was f*cking brilliant. The papers are describing it as a chest down for Gayle but it was so much more than that. He twisted his body so he could direct it into DGs path. Awesome bit of skill.

I had my doubts about him, I won't lie! There have been flashes of inspiration such as against Villa but he needs nurturing and needs to play in a 4-4-2 which doesn't suit a start against Liverpool when we correctly started with a lone striker up top. Having said that, with a decent strike partner to lay off to him (not sure it is going to be Glen in the long run, although he was much improved too), Gayle, with a bit of confidence, showed he can be a premier league player. Maybe another year on the fringes then a breakthrough... Ince however... he can go home...! Know it was a under 21 game but when gayle scored 5 goals I thought that him and Murray looked like they had a good understanding. Typical big and small striker combo. Maybe they've been working together to as they both know they can't play the lone role in the prem but are trying to prove in a 4-4-2 they'd be the best option

As soon as Dwight came on, I said to my Mrs "he's beefed up". He looked sharper, more confident and stronger. Both finishes were superb. If he carries on like that we have one less position to worry about. Also respect to Bolasie for his 2nd half performance and to Murray for a great piece of skill to set up Gayle. I love being a Palace fan.

Still looks good when the game has opened up. It's no coincidence he scores when the game has opened up. But when it hasn't opened up he doesn't offer much. The runs and moving into space isn't up to this level. That simple pass he gave away on the edge of the box shows he needs to improve a lot to be a Prem player. If TP can improve his game before a game opens up then he'll be an option. Unfortunately there aren't many games where it does, although the 1-0 to us and breaking quickly scenario may happen quite a bit. Not taking away 2 very well taken goals but the last time a minority got carried away with the Villa worldie he didn't play again for 4 months. That is because he doesn't offer what Jerome and Chamkh do at number 9 and/or 10. Possible for a partnership though if we ever have one.
