As a lesbian myself I get really pissed off at tossers campaigning on behalf of me and actually creating an issue that isn't really there. If you are gay, so what, no different from being straight in terms of how people treat you unless you walk around advertising the fact that your gay. People are different,we have fat, thin, ginger, disabled, beautiful, ugly ect ect, is there going to be campaigns on their behalf?.
As some have said, bringing attention and banging the drum about how unfair life is, will cause resentment.
So please don't campaign on my behalf and don't get offended on my behalf either. I actually found the jokes on here quite funny. Talking of which Nike have just launched their first Lesbian trainers, they have an extra long tongue and you can get them off with one finger.

What part of Lesbia do you come from?

I said,I found some things on here very funny, Your post isn't, Need to try harder.

Time of the month is it?

Harder than that. I like having periods my girlfriend loves the taste of blood.

Are you Jo Brand?

Self-righteous frothing and spluttering is always a joy to witness.

We are into page 4 and still no tangibility to how gay people are discriminated against at football and by whom and even if they are what the f*** anyone's supposed to do about it.

Its just another ill thought out knee jerk 'right on' campaign to a prejudice that isn't seemingly there or if it is it certainly unwarranted.

What are these 11 clubs actually going to be doing ????

Edited by The Sash (06 Feb 2014 8.00pm)

Still waiting for someone to clarify how anyone's rights are being denied and/or anyone is being in some way discriminated against to such a degree that this sort of campaign becomes necessary.

Quite right. No such thing as indirect discrimination which was merely created to give employment lawyers work to do.

Can anyone remind me how many 'out' gay footballers there are again please. There are at least 4,000 professional footballers in the UK so 1.5% of that is 60 gay (excluding bisexual) footballers.

Edited by Mapletree (06 Feb 2014 8.32pm)

Probably closer to between 5 and 12% of the population - dependent on methodology of collection.

So still no-one either 'pro' or 'anti' has a coherenet reason why this is needed and whom its aimed at benefiting or indeed who's behaviour needs some social genetic modification then ??

A 'campaign' for campaigns sake which seems to have absolutley no direction or purpose other than people / clubs / organisations to say 'how right on are we' ??

I must ask what my bender and lezza circle think of it...I suspect they would be like Tinhats to be honeST.

Unless all 92 clubs sign up, it's pretty pointless campaign.

I happen to agree a lot with what Tinhat and Sash are saying.

I'm tough. I'm ambitious. I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, I'm OK with that.

No sure whether you are looking for evidence of players being discriminate against that would hold up in an employment tribunal or evidence of large problem of homophobia. On the first point, there is no tangible evidence of homophobic discrimination that would hold up in an employment tribunal because there are no openly gay players to make those statements. So no evidence of a gay player/coach not being given a job or paid less because of their sexuality.
But as Mapletree says the most obvious argument for a general problem of homophobia is the absences of openly gay players. It is an inductive argument so it does not necessarily show proof. It could be there are no gay footballers because for some strange reason Gay people don't play football.
However the eight players who have discussed their sexuality with PFA but not openly came out would suggest other wise

Don't believe they should have to come out I believe it is their personal business if they do or not. That decision though should not be based on whether they will receive abuse if they do come out.

Again - None of which is actually tangible though is it ?

Is this campaign designed at making it easier for gay players to come out (which is kinda what I assume)..if it is then can it be really that naive to assume that they would want to do so - I would suspect for a myriad of reasons they really wouldnt want to

This is what their site says:

Aim: to enable people to take action against prejudice and discrimination aimed at lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGB&T) people in order to create welcoming and inclusive football environments.

It seems it is just as aimed at grassroots as professional football

I have no idea if it will work, I have no idea who is involved in thinking through what it does or why.

I just know that people aren't really approaching the question with an open mind. And I love the idea that Palace as a club and bunch of supporters could go where others fear to tread. I for one could't care less what MillScum fans think about threads like this.

Mind you, I also think that most LGBT people can stand up for themselves. But remember that most people in football are still pretty young and maybe not quite as confident as e.g. Tinhat.

From the original link: "Campaign director Lou Englefield added: "This isn't just about players coming out. It's about all of us - including heterosexual players and fans who attend matches week in week out - being willing to speak out and take visible action to challenge prejudice in the game.""

It seems a pretty inoffensive "awareness raising" thing that doesn't even have the aims ascribed to it by its defenders here, let alone those that its denigrators are ascribing to it. It's not the biggest issue but obviously, for enough people, it is an issue. If you don't agree with it, it'll be easy enough to ignore (well it was as it was launched at Selhurst!). Couple of press releases, some unnoticed t-shirts in warm ups, maybe a banner & 2 mins on Football Focus. I'm sure that ignoring that will be easier on everyone's blood pressure than getting in a pro-homophobia lather about it all. If you do agree with it then it probably isn't really aimed at you either.

By the way, the "I got ripped in four weeks" ad on this screen is making me look very gay at work.

Which takes us back in that circular argument what prejudice and discrimation ??

How for LGB&T is football not a welcoming and inclusive environment ?

This isn't a campaign its a goalless and vague and wooly mission statement

Like I said earlier any equality campaign is laudable - this one though simply hasnt got a point or seemingly knows what its actually campaigning about.
