This post has been merged from a topic called 'Davids in the Red and Blue' by Guntrisoft Is this a masterstroke in terms of publicity or can he really find some good form for the coming season after 2 years out of the game? His combative style in midfield is something we've lacked since Michael Hughes left. ---Forgot this should go on transfer thread --- my bad! Edited by Joseph Paxton (18 Aug 2010 1.06am)

Some respected posters on the BBS have confirmed that this story does indeed have some credence and that Palace have offered Davids a pay as you play deal and are waiting for his reply as the offer is on the table. I would welcome such a famous player to join our great club as he could really influence our other players and already this rumour has got the club buzzing.

To people saying hes lost his knees, hes 37, scholes is 35 and still playing some of his best football in his career at the moment. Of course you cant perfectly compare, with scholes playing constantly and davids having two years off. But i guess it just shows that the older players can still cut it, even in the premier league.

Its one way to p*ss QPR off anyway, their fans wanting all these big players and after the months of abuse from some of their fans we go and trump them with this signing, just brilliant. All that money and the best they can muster is Adel Tarrabt or Paddy Kenny. Obviously this is not the reason I want him signed but its a perk, Im just hoping the club shop sell the novelty glasses and dreadlock wig, plus I can finally get a football shirt with my name on it

Makes Davide Baiocco look like a young whippersnapper! If Davids keeps himself fit there is no reason why he can't do a job for us. I still rate Ryan Giggs and he is approaching 50!

I think this can only be good for the club. If it is a 'pay as you play' contract as has been mentioned in some sources then even if he has lost his speed and his knees have gone he can still play from time to time and in my opinion would do a job for us. He's a battler and we all know we need a player like that in the centre of midfield and this will only rub off on our younger players and the rest of the team. As someone also mentioned if he plays it will allow Ambrose to push on and no doubt Davids can still thread a decent pass. Just the rumour that he might sign for us has got everyone buzzing and talking about Crystal Palace. There may be a small increase in ticket sales due to this and also may even bring in new fans, which would mean more revenue in the long run for the club. I for one would definitely buy a shirt with his name on it and no doubt many others would too, meaning yet more money for the club. Can't really see anything negative about this, so what he's 37? If its pay as you play then surely there's nothing to lose and a lot to gain. Will still be shocked if it happens though but hope it does!

What ever next? Palace to sign Zinedine Zidane coming out of retirement to sign for Palace!! Edgar Davids is an amazing signing if true, yet another footballing legend to line up for the Eagles!Quality player, lets hope he's not totally crocked and delivers the goods.
