When the "mainstream view of life" is, understandably, ignorant of the emotions involved, having never experienced them, it isn't a question of those who are experiencing them "fitting in". I didn't see the programme or hear the question, but I can quite understand any politician trying to swerve answering, even if they do understand the issues better than most. Your answer is going to be misunderstood by many and misrepresented by the press as it necessarily is complicated. With this train of thought, presumably it is acceptable for an MP never to answer any question on any subject?

I have some sympathy for politicians when they are asked questions about an area that is not their responsibility. I would not expect the housing minister to be able to answer a detailed question about MOD procurement off the top of their head. In this case the Leader of the Party was asked a simple question about a world wide event which his party was celebrating that day and which is an annual event. Pathetic.

Everyone wants a cleaner greener planet etc but the approach cannot be punishing the many while the few go on their merry way. Well said.

Well, your lot would have done all the same poor decisions that the Tories did.....just harder....they wanted harder lockdowns and I stopped listening to the Ukraine policy but I imagine they were fully in lockstep with promoting this cold war and not working towards a negotiation back in March. Quite amazing that the government has no counter-inflation policy. And the Bank of England, who have the responsibility for inflation after independence, seem to think their job is just to advise the serfs how badly it is going. They could do worse than revisit Ted Heath's counter inflation policy, stopped inflation in its tracks. Property rents were back-dated to the end of a previous tenancy, businesses were released from landlords and flourished. France has clamped down on energy prices, the UK could do the same it just takes the will. The public are too soft in my opinion. Treat governments rough, the way they treat you.

You wouldn’t though except a politician to answer on specialist areas, with out first consulting experts. In this case the ignorance is not so much that of the politicians but of most of us. Me included until very recently. Any politician answering these sort of questions will be a hostage to ignorance whatever they say, so will try to swerve them and accept the criticism as less harmful.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |
