Our "Board" has been criticised but virtually the rest of the PL clubs have found it somewhat challenging to get new players on board for a variety of reasons. You talk to the likes of Swansea,Burnley,W.Ham and they will all confirm what I am asserting. The only PL club who have secured a number of targets is Middlesbrough - believe they have signed more than any other PL club. Lower down the spectrum it is much easier with a substantial number of "Frees" on offer.Crawley Town have bought loads. It's at the top end it is much more difficult to get players "Over the line". Love it. I think the board have probably been working hard to bring in possible prospects already. I am sure I heard somewhere that we are after some bloke called Christian Benteke and someone else called Saido Berahino. If the board hasn't been doing that, who has? The Transfer fairies? Have they? I've really no idea, but I thought the announcement of a 10 day interregnum whilst they were on a jolly in the US was perhaps unwise.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

I was responding to posts which indicated frustration with our "Board" and all I was trying to say is that clubs across the PL have found it challenging to snare targets and find it frustrating as a result. Not easy at all ! Sometimes deals DO take some time to "Get over the line" for various reasons. There must be a lot of frustrated supporters across the country out there ! Edited by Willo (29 Jul 2016 1.43pm)

Edited by Willo (29 Jul 2016 12.16pm) This has similarities with Holloway's Palace a few years ago. I guess it is easier to bring people in for a last hurrah or a first crack at the Premiership when you are newly promoted. Not so easy to bring in established Premiership names when you are in the stage between Relegation Fodder and Mid-Table.

Middlesbrough have made 8 signings : Guzan,Valdes,Barragan,Espinosa,De Roon,Fischer,McGhee (Loan),Negredo (Loan). Not sure what competition they had for a lot of these players. The problem last season was our squad wasn't good enough in depth. You can only name 25 players in a squad so make DAMN sure they're all bloody good and not piss about with 5 mediocre strikers or centre backs. Yes, we could currently be a bit stuffed with injuries in the Striker department but that's the area we're working on the most. We have done well so far! If you can't see that you're a damn pessimist. An analogy: if I want a new roof on my house, I have to take part of it down first. Sure, it will look a bit s*** half way through (i.e. us only having Wickham fit) but, while you're seeing the builders working hard on it, and can see that the half they've done is in good nick, you're right to feel confident it'll be good when it's complete. A lot of you on here are looking at this incomplete roof and saying 'what a load of s***'. We are Palace. We can't afford to keep 5 strikers while we wait to land a big one. We had to get rid of those players whose contracts have ended. Are you lot seriously saying we should have kept Adebayor and Chamakh and offered them new contracts? Yes, maybe we could have kept Gayle, but we got £10 million for him (!) and he was clearly surplus to requirements once we bag our new striker(s). At that time, too, it seemed that Benteke was just round the corner.
