In your opinion. George Osbourne admitted austerity was wrong after getting the sack, so i'm not alone with my opinion. Austerity is similar to you helping out your neighbour with his (self-inflicted) debt by lowering the pocket-money you give your children.

Except it isn't, perhaps things need pointing out to avoid confusion, like facts, just you saying it doth butter no parsnips I would be Intrigued to see the argument where a small country can prosper by cutting ties, having no trade arrangements, no Migrant policy and rejects the concept of globalisation

'Fromage not Farage' C'mon Steeleye your arguments are normally better than this. The Electoral Commission has not found the referendum was a fix otherwise they would be asking Parliament to re-run it. The commission did find that certain rules were broken by the Leave groups and also by the Remain groups but that seems to have been be swept under the carpet. Whilst I have heard serious remain politicians demand a 2nd referendum because we didn't know what we voted for there is no campaign for a re-run due to electoral malpractice. I don't excuse rule breaking but as others have posted this was never a level playing field to start with. The government was openly Remain and used our taxpayers money to tell us so. Many parts of the establishment including the CBI, IMF, Obama, the BOE etc. tried to use their influence to persuade us to remain rather than staying neutral. I am surprised that the Electoral Commission allowed this when drawing up the rules. How comes a Hungarian Billionaire can spend millions on telling us to Remain and not break the rules, because he is clever and worked out how to stay within them something the idiots in the leave campaign didn't manage to do. The Tories massively broke the rules to stop Farage getting elected in Thanet and yet no one is calling for that election to be re-run. Just because someone broke the rules it doesn't mean that had any demonstrable impact on the result otherwise the remain camp would be screaming foul and I don't mean the people who stand outside Parliament shouting through megaphones. There our unproven claims that the Russians used social media to persuade us to vote leave. Social Media is mainly used by young people who voted Remain so even if the Russians did interfere it didn't work. I'm sorry but the idea that the Referendum is a fix doesn't fly unless you want to agree that the rules were set by the remain government which is hardly impartial. I may change my mind about the referendum being fixed. It would appear that many of the Electoral Commissioners are openly pro Remain.

The trouble with calls for a second referendum is that how many leave voters won't even bother to vote now due to feeling totally fobbed off for the past three years? So to me that doesn't make a fair vote. And if remain win by 3 or 4% how is that any different from the first vote? Alternatives like a GE might result in a back at square one situation too though. I'm minded now of thinking that it's better to get out with a customs agreement of some kind and then work from there rather than risk the whole process. It would at least allow for immigration to be reigned in, which was the core concern of many. My concern from there is that the government would continue with its new strategy, to bump up non EU immigration figures drastically to compensate for the EU drop off. Sure we can vote them out, but then a party that even more lax of immigration will get in. The failings of a two party system are becoming clear. Better to bring in some form of proportional representation so that all voices are heard across the board and where new parties can gain serious momentum.

Involving remain in the dubious goings on in the June 2016 referendum only reinforces the case against it. A sad episode in our national life with the repercussions down the years.

So would I. As a matter of interest who were you thinking of as it certainly isn't the UK as there is a huge difference between "rejecting the concept of globalisation" and not wanting to be a part of the Franco German Federal State

Maybe, it helped that interest rates were low, and we won't really know until the Bank has unwound its position.
