I have spoken to Fulham supporters and they have been fulsome in their praise of Mr Hodgson and what he achieved at their club.

Whilst Fulham were organised and 'Shape' was important he did not adopt an ultra-defensive approach to games.
At Fulham he had Nevland,Litmanen,Gera and Teymourian on his books, also Danny Murphy, and amongst his signings were Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora.

Times moves on and Shrewsbury at home was a different era. I think that’s the crux of the two camps of palace fans those happy to settle for what we currently have and those that want to see the club at least have a plan or strategy of how it wants to keep moving forward. 8 seasons in the premier league and we are still so stagnant with no obvious steps forward apart from the academy which is fantastic. If we go down what have we got to show for for the circa £1B come through the coffers?

I know there has to be a sense of realism of where we and what we are and have sensible and attainable expectations but if this is al we can aspire to then what’s the point of it all. Roy is only part of the problem.

Sure. As I said earlier in the thread I’m frustrated by some of the football and think that certain of the performances this season have been concerning.

But if we wind back three and a half years we lost four of our last five games under Allardyce and then had de Boer embark on his one man pre-season mission to wreck our Premier League status. So a further three years in the Premier including beating the likes of Chelsea, United, City and Arsenal without having look over our shoulder too much isn’t all bad.

As you allude to, player investment hasn’t been great and a recent discussion on here regarding how many of our current squad would make top ten sides didn’t yield many positive answers.

Quite. That’s the thing about opinions.

I’m sure they have. They should have fond memories of him for having taken them to European cup final and an fa cup quarter final. Not quite the same heady heights seen at palace.

There may be, there may not. Has there been a survey of some sort?

The most recent poll I have seen was some weeks ago on the other forum.
At that time 50% was in favour of him going immediately, 15% in favour of keeping him indefinitely with the remainder willing to move him if results didn't improve.
I can't say that's representative of the whole fan base, and obviously the latest result at the time of the poll can have have an adverse/positive effect.
But it does indicate a level of disquiet that may surprise the Hodgson evangelists.

Worth noting they weren't an efficiently run club, Al-Fayed had been chucking money at the team for years in order to buy a passport.

They spent far beyond their means. We can't do that, and I wouldn't like us to do that either. I dislike the handouts mentally some fans have more than I dislike Roy.

Thanks. I may be mistaken, but I don't think there would be many objections to Hodgson's immediate departure if the right person was already lined up to take over.

Successes not on the back of dull defensive performances lacking in vim, vigour, pace and energy due to advancing years.

That was probably my fault. I was sitting there for 2 hours solid refreshing the page and hitting the sack immediately button.

The age of our squad is certainly a contributing factor but in my opinion to lay that solely as the justification for Hodgsons awful performances is too far for me. He’s had players and discarded them, currently doing the same with Riedewald. To me it’s clear the ‘type’ of players he will play centrally through midfield. He plays nearly all of them every game. I believe you are giving Roy far too much credit. I certainly don’t believe if he had a Bruno Fernandes type player he would trust them through the middle. He’s barely attempted to add any creativity centrally in his time with us.

I kind of understand why Roy sets us up negativity against the big boys - but against the rest is baffling. Even more baffling is a total unwillingness to adapt in anyway when things aren’t going to plan.
We just don’t seem to play on the front foot against anyone and if we do get our noses in front we revert to a defensive shape - rather than kill the game off. It’s this unwavering negative approach (particularly when we have some exciting players at the club) that has led to many hoping for a change.
I find myself watching the pre match press conferences wondering why I’m bothering as it’s the same as every other conference, dull.
Just like many of our performances- mainly dull with the odd flash of interest...... but mostly dull.
I am very appreciative of the stability Roy has brought to the club but
I hate the brand of football being played by us - it’s defensive and dull, no width, no tempo, no movement and no real purpose.

We need a new direction and with the nucleus of a decent group of players we can be a lot better than we are.
