I've stayed away from this thread. After all the incompetence of the current government ought to be obvious to everyone, beaten only by the incompetence of the opposition. However, the attacks on Blair need a rebuttal. Tony Blair was exactly what we needed at the time he took office, and if was available what we now need. He is a centralist. A realist who understands that social democracy is the only practical way forward and that we need to do so with our European friends. He even managed Bush well and has been very unfairly treated over what happened in Iraq. With Blair as PM we wouldn't be nearly in quite as big a mess as we are now. He knew how to lead. The vitriol he gets, and I anticipate, only comes because people don't see beyond the obvious. Since the Labour Party committed political suicide in choosing Corbyn, the Blair legacy has been dismantled and allowed the stupid wing of the Tories to take over. It's really quite sad.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

The Blair/Brown period was a time of economic growth, rising living standards not just for the rich, reduced taxation, balanced budgets low inflation, reduced crime, enhanced public services and social justice. Britain worked well with Tony Blair. None of the above could possibly be attributed to the tories, the image of a broken Britain is their doing, and hopefully their epitaph. What is their policy for all this? Thanks for your vote, and enjoy your destitution - we will throw in some Thatcher to feed your prejudice and make you feel better.

I really can't understand anyone who would wish a return of Blair. No point to recite the well known list of reasons such as getting into an illegal war etc. I just find it bizarre. Edited by HKOwen (20 Aug 2022 12.59am)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

CP, who are the woke obsessed? Do you mean the ones who believe a man with a beard and wedding tackle can be a woman such as Kier Starmer and his hangers on, or the people who think the opposite and have a healthy obsession with calling out such nonsense? Personally, I could not vote for anyone who cannot answer a simple question about what a woman is. Just an answer whatever it is, instead of a mumbled reply about it's a difficult and not straight forward question. I cannot believe that someone of your pragmatic nature would entertain such nonsense.
