That to me is progress. I want to see one player sold on every two years making a profit. We should not be held hostage by the league.. I want us if anything to be utilizing it and exploiting it. I want us to be known as an exciting prem club where players come to us as a stepping stone. If palace is a gate way club, so be it. I don't want us to be the opposite, a journeyman club where we can't shift expensive players that no one will want. Each new season should be exciting, see what we have to offer and a few scalps and a fun cup run. Champ players should be jumping at the opportunity to play for us. That's the feel I want for the club. Yes. I think I would be happy with that. Forget players this year, I think we should go and buy Brentford’s recruitment team. Ultimately, they would get us where we want to be.

That's the feel I want for the club. If Benteke and Sakho had both continued to perform as they began then we would easily have achieved the desired points, Eze and now mateta are our new exciting additions, I doubt very much we will attempt again to buy success. Cups have practically died a death, all the Premier teams hardly risk a full fist team until they get into the last sixteen, not worth the excitement anymore for us, teams lower down the pecking order have all the fun now. Not by buying his way to year on year promotions , but having a proactive mentality to each game and let’s face it playing some really good stuff in the process. I’d introduce him to the set up now and start the succession process at the end of the season - hopefully we’ll stay up and he can take us into a new era in the Prem!

Howe's signings at Burnley included Kieran Trippier, Ben Mee, Danny Ings and Charlie Austin. His more recent signings at Bournemouth have included Jack Stacey,Lloyd Kelly, Chris Mepham, Philip Billing,David Brooks, Lewis Cook,Dominic Solanke, all in their early 20s. Well maybe it might make sense for SP to keep Roy at the club in another capacity, in order to benefit from his breadth of knowledge of the game (home and abroad). Roy’s contract is coming to an end and as a thoroughly decent chap he may understand SP may want to make longer term plans - which go beyond Roy’s own plans. A move to a different role may appeal to him?

Not by buying his way to year on year promotions , but having a proactive mentality to each game and let’s face it playing some really good stuff in the process. Buying their way up is exactly what Howe and Bournemouth did. In getting promoted to the premier league in 2014-15 they spent so much money (which they didn't actually have) that they got fined £4.75m for breaching Financial Fair Play rules. Bournemouth were happy to pay it as they originally expected to be fined £7.6m. In their five premier league seasons Bournemouth / Howe spent (and keep in mind this figure is after player sales) £133 million. Howe was in charge for all of this spending, they were all his signings. And Bournemouth got relegated. Our net spend over the same period is £56 million, of which Hodgson has had the benefit of about £25m spent whilst £50m came in for AWB. I've no issue with people criticising Hodgson so long as the judgement being passed is fair and accurate. Pound for point, the success of Hodgson is not only clear to see, but so is the comparative failure of Howe and many others. Edited by TheBigToePunt (22 Jan 2021 12.46pm)
