Undoubted skill, ability and arrogance but lacks the application, desire and committment to match it. God knows what he does in training! I have been speaking to a fervent A.Villa supporter tonight and he said he would have Benteke back at the club in a heartbeat ! He said that in what he described as a "Terrible Villa side" Benteke scored a goal every second game. Not checked to see if this statistic is accurate. In A.Villa's three seasons whilst Benteke was there they finished in 15th, 15th and 17th in the PL. Edited by Willo (08 Apr 2019 10.59pm)

Hoping CB will start scoring again? He looks totally lost when presented With chances to put the ball in the net.

Klopp is one of the best managers on the planet and look what he thought of him. There is no wriggling out of this. He was never more than a mediocre striker. Although he had an average first season with us, the scousers really saw us coming with the price and his agent ruined his career negotiating the salary but secured him financial security for life. Whoever our negotiator is really is very green. Liverpool have always stuffed us on sucking top dollar from us.

Edited by Willo (08 Apr 2019 10.59pm) The problem is that both Liverpool and ourselves were hoping we were buying the 'Villa Benteke'. Injuries, style of play, lack of confidence, the penalty miss have all contributed to his dramatic decline. It really is quite astonishing how far he has dropped off, I mean literally off a cliff. He needs to move on for his own sake as much as ours. I actually think he has been supported very well by us fans for a player with his scoring record and missed chances over the last 2 years, again we were singing his name at St James when he was coming on. First season aside it has been our most costly failing in the transfer market to date. A real shame, as he could have been everything we needed. Edited by MonsterMunch (09 Apr 2019 8.55am)

Would like to add that I suspect the club would be happy to see Benteke depart but a combination of abject performances over seasons and significant wages make a move more difficult to achieve. We might be stuck with him until the end of his contract with much hoping and praying that one day it will all change.

Benteke's problem with Liverpool was the change of manager as Klopp doesn't play to Benteke's strengths so he became surplus to requirements. I wonder how he would play if he played alongside Batshuayi

Unfortunately we'll have to take the financial hit. No one is going to be daft enough to take a striker who has only scored a couple in two seasons.

We haven't been playing to Batshuayi's strengths so it might be useful for him to feed off Benteke up front. Burnley have been playing Wood and Barnes up front, hitting them with long balls and they have proved effective in recent games and possibly even before that.Might work with Benteke and Batshuayi as a strike force.

I think a 4-4-2 with Tekkers and Bats could work against lesser opposition, but against Man City, Arsenal and probably even Everton we would lose the midfield and probably be overrun, unless Wilf were willing to take on more responsibility defensively. I noticed today that following Luka's penalty he has now overtaken Christian both in terms of goals scored and goals per game. Interestingly (or not) I also noticed that Dann's scoring record is as good as Townsend's. It's easy to forget what a threat he used to be. Hopefully one day we'll sign a player who can score regularly from open play, but until then let's be glad we have man from Serbia
