To make an assessment of Vieira’s view of the squad you would have to conclude he’s less than satisfied in certain areas. The evidence?
He plays Zaha or Ayew down the middle in preference to Edouard and Mateta and this is despite the fact that it’s not Zaha’s preferred position.
He uses Schlupp in central midfield in preference to authentic central midfield players in Hughes and Luka.
He has not really used summer purchases of Richards, Johnstone and Ebiowei.

This is not to debate the merits or the validity of his choices.
It’s more an indication that he’s not convinced by our options in midfield and up front and doesn’t feel the summer purchases are good enough at present or at least not better than the alternatives already in the squad.
I wonder if Vieira’s aligned with the club’s transfer policy on player selection, or whether he’s resigned to the constraints imposed and recognises that his job is limited to managing the players the club impose on him.

The problem is that there doesn't seem to be any news to share. I've never known a window with as few rumours as this one. Parish has already implied that the club is skint so I don't really know what there is to be discussed and if we don't have the occasional humour we would all be very miserable

Luka was struggling pre Vieira, Jairo has not managed to command a regular spot since he joined . Hughes , I’d like to see him get a chance but the manager clearly doesn’t trust him enough.

You are mistaken. PV, like FdB before him, was brought in with a certain playing style in mind from our chairman. At least that is the way it seems to me. When it dawns on Parish (again) that the club can't play like golden age Ajax, AC Milan, Barcelona, Arsenal or present day Man City on a shoestring then Dyche will be offered the job. Or as you suggest, Derry will be promoted. Something to look forward to I guess.

Other teams play better football and (more importantly) are a greater goal threat than us on a similar or worse budget. Brentford and ,dare I say it, the Weed to name but two. And even if you look into the Championship with the job Kompany has done to transform Burnley.

Personally I don’t care how pleasing on the eye we are. I’d take getting it up the other end quickly and having more chances in opposition box over passing it about for the sake of it and getting nowhere near the goal!
