They come on planes - fully paid but have destroyed passports. Lots come from the UK who have already failed asylum there - yet pretend to be from somewhere else. I believe (off the top of my head) that we also have 1500 per year allocated by the EU.
The common factor of nearly all of them is that they are undocumented and, frankly, mostly lying. Amongst the liars are some genuine ones but it's a small percentage. People aren't fooled anymore after meeting them/ dealing with them.

I worked in this area before. They all come from the UK. They try get across the ferry using the common travel area. Loads had thick British accents. It all started when the Tories and Lib Dems got into power. Before that it never happened.

Ireland has an opt out on all EU immigration and re location rules.

A cross party meeting between Brexiteers and Remainers should be applauded. As long as this is not a cover for us re-joining I think it good that politicians are sounding each other out.

One of the many issues I had with belonging to the EU was the Stalinist group think approach e.g. there is only way one that the EU works other opinions are not available.

The same logic applies to life after Brexit there is no one way there are many variations ranging from a Singapore style economy to a Socialist Scandinavian paradise.

What I now expect of the various parties is a vision of how this country should embrace Brexit and if cross party agreement can be met so much the better.

After 6 years, how you can tell ?
Is it ALL about the finance as that cannot and shouldn’t be the marker to success or failure of Brexit, there are many more facets to it than just money.

Interesting take on the exit vote

Immigration opinion polls

1940s 90% against
1950s 82% against
2010s 55% against...

There are obviously ways of interrogating it. Doubt anyone has a answer on this thread but it will be measurable across the spectrum, from finance to social impact.

I was in favour of waiting until passing judgement, but it doesn't appear to be going well currently, independent of global issues, especially if clandestine cross party meetings are being arranged to think of a way forward.

29 billions or £1,000 lost business investment, not trade which is far worse, announced today.

There may be a few alterations, but the reality is no silver lining, you can't leave the 3rd largest power bloc without serious consequences, and we cannot be magicked back into the single market and customs union.

What can we do, well we have a British establishment and political class wedded to failure, don't look to them for solutions.

There is no 'project manager workbench' employed by them, only incompetence and greed.

Can you name anything connected with them that actually works well, or at all?

The ability for us to vote for or against them, unlike the unelected, unaccountable lawmakers of the undemocratic, racketeering EU.

and a constant number of Brits being against Immigration.

You can call this the Tony Blair effect.......trafficking in lorryloads of Labour Voters. In order to cook the electoral books.

Imagine Ancient Rome having a population of , say 20%, Huns. And then a vote on immigration.

It makes a mockery of the whole game when Attila the Hun arrives at the gates with an army.

As opposed to what we have here?

This is the point. Brexit was a fantastic opportunity for the UK to fast-track itself into a leading position. Huge advantages but it required bold application.

Saw an article in today's Guardian in which Lord Frost, the previous lead Brexit negotiator, questioned why the hell a Conservative Government, with the majority it has gained on the back of a solid Leave mandate, is having cross party talks?

They want us back in. It is as simple as that. The Conservatives, with that majority won on the basis of getting Brexit done and sacking many of the leading Remain voices from their own side in the run could have done whatever they wanted. You name it, they could have done it.

And instead, almost nothing at all. Apart from leading the charge to stop Ukraine reaching a peace accord with Russia. In effect, prolonging that almighty s*** storm.

People need to wake up this. The Tories could have done all kinds of things. Instead, nothing. Literally SFA.

Now I personally think the economic predictions for the next year, like so many other economic predictions, will prove utterly wrong (again) but what is obvious is that the political elite of this country want us firmly back inside of the EU (and not, in my opinion, because it wants to help the EU get stronger).

Outside of a revolution, in every sense of the word, we are heading back in within the next 10 years. Potentially sooner with my prediction some kind of second ref in 2026 predicated on the notion that people have had a decade to make their minds up with the option of effectively a new deal that ties us fully into the free market and customs union against rejoining with the EU welcoming us (and more importantly the cash) with open arms.
