Great points made on the basis of real events rather than vacuous 'Mail/Telegraphesque opinion. ' Recent Mayoral AND Council Elections hardly yielded a ringing endorsement towards The Conservative Government with no replacement for part-time Boris; coupled with Labour now presiding over most council seats within England. Hardly a case of Corbyn's Labour failing.

Hardly a case of Cobyn's Labour failing. Tory's are a complete mess, forget about the referendum at the time of the Mayoral & Council elections there were god knows how many stories (including the Panama papers) and Labour should have been in a position to capitilise. Instead damage limitation appears to be viewed as a success.

Wasn't this guy for "straight talking, honest politics"? And yet despite being a fierce Eurosceptic he's encouraging his party to vote to stay. Pure party management. No more honest and straight talking than Cameron.

Instead damage limitation appears to be viewed as a success. Against a background of supposedly losing hundreds of hundreds of seats and a concerted smear campaign regarding anti semetism (which strangely stopped the moment that the local elections were held - have a look at the pdf of a transcript of a hearing I posted on the anti semetism thread which shows how ridiculous the charges were against one labour member) I personally think that they didn't do too badly. But that's my opinion. I wouldn't underestimate how labour are doing. You're right about the Tories though. Imminent implosion for them I feel. Interesting times.

Yep, does seem like an about turn, but one must remember that as leader, he is representing the views of the PLP and Labour membership, which is (IMHO) democratically representing the views of the majority of the groups I've just mentioned. That said, I bet it's leaving a sour taste in his mouth, but is needed to keep cohesion within the party and avoid a major split. How much straight talking, honest reporting have we had from the media above 'don't vote for scruffy bloke'? Edited by nickgusset (07 Jun 2016 9.10am)

No more honest and straight talking than Cameron. His job isn't to represent his views, but the people he represents. His party are quite pro-EU, it seems, as are a lot of labour leaning voters. It would be wrong, for him to push his agenda over that of the party. Its the problem of the media, they present the idea that our leaders are there to be followed, they aren't, they are there to represent the people.

He was also anti austerity, for renationalisation of public assets and pro worker. I doubt if anyone agrees with absolutely everything that the leader of their chosen party says.

Is he crap because thats what is in the papers constantly, or is he crap because he wants to eradicate inequalities, pay gaps and promote the rights of ordinary people above those that control the means of production?

But his party isn't and oddly a large number of Labour voters and trade unionists see remaining as a better option. There is a separation between beliefs of the self and the professional self, that's common to all politicians. Its also a key policy decision made by the Labour party to adopt many of the EU policies that have become contentious, and as a leader he also has a responsibility to those previous governments. Did he say he was going to 'leave the EU' if Labour won the election?
