We are a week away from our first game in the Euro's and all Southgate can talk about is taking the knee, some fans will boo cos its gone on to long, Britain is a far more integrated society than the US, all us honkies have got black friends and think nothing of it. If a black guy is murdered by police in America, which is thousands of miles away, why bring the problem over here, all it is doing is stoking racism over here, so Southgate should stop his players taking the knee and get on with the football.

Taking the knee signifies support for BLM in the same way that raising your right arm straight signifies support for Nazism.

Yes, I don't like dragging the US's issues into this country. We are not the USA. What annoys me is the intimation by Corporates such as Sky that unless you are fully behind such political gestures then you are automatically considered part of the problem without knowing anything about an individuals reasons for objecting to it. Sporting events generally should be for playing sport and football stadiums for football end of, let's concentrate on that and try and win a European Championship. If the players/sportsmen want to do more then they have a voice with their fame and enough money to influence matters local to them in schools colleges etc.

This thread started 6 months ago. Since then, generally, nothing much has changed. You only have to read some of the early posts to see that. Most of us don't have racist tendancies otherwise we wouldn't be so supportive of our star players. We don't think black folk in this country have a bad deal otherwise they wouldn't be winning BAFTAs. We see black faces in just about every TV programme and commercial when a few years ago there were hardly any. And then only when the role or product required it, not just to appease a left wing, right on, woke trend. Taking the knee was an American gesture which the BLM people introduced and was taken up up here initially as a gesture of support. It was, as far as I'm concerned, to say to everyone - look guys we don't like what happened any more than you. But now it has outlived it's original purpose and intent. Wilf, very bravely in my opinion, said so himself when he decided enough was enough and started to stand not kneel at kick off. It's no wonder it gets booed at the start of England matches. Supporters are not booing black players they are booing the overplayed, overused, outlived and redundant need to show false support for something we all recognise anyway. And that is the need for all of us to live together as humans occupying the same planet.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
