For me, this really is a no-brainer.

Gadaffi was the living embodiment of state-sponsored terrorism in the 1980s and, as peterg has pointed out, although there may be some dispute about Libya's direct involvement in the Lockerbie bombing, his support of other terrorist organisations such as the IRA is beyond doubt. His friendship and support for Robert Mugabe (which he still maintains, incidentally) must also bring his 'friend of the West' credentials into question.

The only reason why he has modified his position vis-a-vis the West is that he had the sense to realise that, under the Bush-Blair axis (an alliance that can and will invade countries, legally or otherwise, in order to force a regime change), that he would have almost certainly been high on the list that was headed by Saddam Hussein.

There are times in life where it is necessary to make a moral stand and mine is that I will completely withdraw my support for the club if he, or anyone associated with him, were to buy it. Some things are more important than football (very few, admittedly) but I could not live with my conscience if I lent my support to a club that was funded with blood money. Anyone who accuses me, or anyone else who takes a similar position, of not being a true Palace fan is completely mising the point.

Never thought in a million years I'd be agreeing with you (and there is still stuff to be said on the BNP thread, don't worry!) but this is absolutely spot on. Also, any money Gadafy has should go to improving the lives of the people of Libya, not into buying a football club as a plaything.

His son was on Perugia's books, i think he played one game for them. And the chap who posted on here saying he would go to another stadium (Southampton)than support Palace, well you can't be a true supporter

You've missed my point. I am a Palace supporter, and will be until either I, or the club dies.

If Gadaffi buys Palace, which quite frankly I think is unlikley because there will be authorities who will step in and stop it, there will be many many fans who will not want to pay their money to him. Many fans, not just me.

In mine and many other peoples minds, this guy will be remembered for his refusal to release suspects to the Lockerbie enquiry. I don't know if it was ever proved whether he was involved in any way or anything else that he has done, but this refusal itself is enough to fill any people with a sense of hatred for him.

With this in mind, are you prepared to welcome him to Selhurst Park with open arms. I sure as hell am not.

sorry if this has been posted already, but i just read this on the Teamtalk site and Sky Sports site is pretty similar:

Jordan would welcome Gaddafi takeover

Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan would consider a takeover bid from Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

Although no formal approach for the newly-promoted Premiership side has been made by the Libyan Arab Foreign Investment Company (LAFICO) - the government body Gaddafi used to buy a stake in Juventus - Jordan has been made aware of his interest.

He told the Guardian: "I have been told that Gaddafi and his son [Al-Saadi] are interested in acquiring Palace...if they did, I would consider it."

Jordan did not believe that either FA or Premier League rules would prevent any move from LAFICO, but did accept that it would be controversial.

He added: "At the end of the day, many people might see Roman Abramovich's involvement at Chelsea as less than palatable, but he is moving the club forward.

"If Gaddafi's money was able to progress Palace and allow them to compete at the top of the tree and be a successful football club, then one would have to take that into consideration.''

Jordan is looking for a way out of the game after seeing Palace promoted in May, an achievement which means the club is financially stable after years of struggling in the Football League.

The 36-year-old millionaire said: "I have achieved what I set out to do. I don't enjoy football any more.''

This is just the sort of ammunition tw*ts like David mellor need to attack and ridicule us. Why oh why does this club allways want to shoot itself in the foot when things are starting to go well?

Cor blimey...just read all 15 pages so my heads starting to spin a bit. Here's my 2 cents for what it's worth...

1. It's not going to happen.

2. We've officially been put in the shop window and we're no longer in the dark about Jordans plans. i.e. he will sell up the minute a good offer comes in.

3. The guy that mentioned the stuff about the two syrians made a well informed point. However Gaddafi has in the past clearly funded terrorism e.g. selling arms to the IRA etc.

4. Bush and Blair are far bigger 'terrorists' than the colonel...in any other countries apart from our own and the USA these two clearly have the most aggressive foreign policy. Gulf War 2 IMO was good in that we weakened Alqaeda and got rid of one of the most evil men in history....however it was still on the whole motivated by Bushs' desire to get his hands on the Iraqis oil.

I haven't honestly formed my final opinion on this...But I believe this is just a ploy to attract new investors.

Speaking emotionally detached on the subject I would say that his Oil fortune would garuntee and cement our status as a premiership force. Lets face it we have one of the best catchment areas in the world with such a dense population in South London and consistently produce high class youth players, it appears we have one of the best young managers in England. Now let me paint a scenario...Ownership of our own stadium & training facilities, ID with over 150 million to spend (he would buy the best of British first and never invest in foreign prima donas like Crespo or Veron) and more importantly financial security.

Lets just hope we can find a chairman that can provide us fans with the above that wouldn't fill us with guilt/shame and not make us choose between our morals and our football cub. Football is meant to be the beutiful game and I could see this situation turning ugly!

Well, after reading all 16 pages my mind is in a spin.

My thoughts:

1. Why us - first thing I knew about this was my boyf calling me to get out of the bath as it was on the news (he is a chelsea fan) and saying 'your team is a f***ing joke' and I hate to admit it but we are always the poor relation in London FC's this just adds more fuel to those who mock us.

2. Yes investment is needed and yes what better way to tout for more investment than by coming up with a story like this - Can anyone remember more media coverage for Palace off the pitch - like ever (only thing that came close was the Cantona kick and even that was linked to an incident during a game)

3. SJ will sell his share - he is a business man at the end of the day and as soon as the right offer comes along he WILL take it. He didn't make his millions by having a strong set of morals - nobody in business does - there are always difficult decisions to make, ones that others won't like and sometimes you have to do things you don't always like.

4. Palace do need to consider long term development, we don't have the ££ or facilities to do what all of us fans dream that we can do = thats reality. We rent our ground that is too small to grow the fan base and make ££. We do not have the financial security to buy in top class players and keep them on the ££ they want.

Overall, Palace will always be a part of who I am, I enjoy the ups and downs, the never knowing whats gonna happen next - being a Palace fan is a rollercoaster ride = always has been and always will be. I just wish stuff like this didn't happen. I am sick to death of having the pis* taken out of me for who I support but that will never change. If Gadafy does buy - well I will still be a Palace fan (albeit an embarressed one) just praying that he doesn't do an Abramovich slow development is good - lets get the basics right first before throwing ridiculous amounts of cash at the squad. I just hope that another investor fronts up - someone that we can all be proud of and support fully to make CPFC the club we all dream of.

Oh Yeah baby - Premiership here we come!!!!

Personally I would rather languish at the bottom of Div 2 than be associated with a s***E like him...Gadaffi is evil...a leopard like him never changes his spots...just hides behind them.......surely Jordan has morals besides just a business head...he says he would never sell out to Noades but seems to be willing to consider a bid from this guy...If I had the choice I know who Id rather have....

........Maybe this is one of the reasons Dowie has yet to put pen to paper???

he agreed to pay 10 million dollars to the family of each of the 270 victims killed during the explosion of a Pan Am flight over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988, blamed on Libyan hijackers.
he is loaded, some great players could be coming our way

This is a true story that i once overheard

Dowie says:is it a bird, is it a plane
Simon says :no its not a plane and its not a bird, but it goes as quick as them, so therefor iv'e come to the conclusion that it is Andy Johnson.
Dowie says: oH yes your right
