It is evidence! Of what though? It’s known that criminal gangs exist. The Krays were British. That doesn’t mean all criminal gangs are British anymore than all criminal gangs are Albanian. It’s extrapolating one fact and building a false picture from it. Which is unrelated to designing merchandise for the Olympics. Who has said that all criminal gangs are British or that all criminal gangs are Albanian? Anyway, surely there is no such things as British or Albanian - theses terms are just social constructs?

The BBC link provided is factual. Violent crime has increased since 1955 faster than the growth in the population. That though does not mean that the reason for that is immigration. Indeed there is no actual evidence to support the idea. It’s an assumption based on no evidence at all. There can be many social and societal causes. When an immigrant achieves citizenship they are no longer an immigrant. Children born here of immigrants are British. Changing demographics bring challenges. Of that there is no doubt, but they must be faced and dealt with. You cannot turn back time. The real question of immigration is a current one. Not a historical one. Do we need more people to help staff certain sectors? Can we survive without them? If we can encourage the feckless back to work by reducing benefits and raising wages what impact would that have and would we be prepared to pay for it? Most importantly, is there any evidence that today’s immigrants are going to increase the crime rates? The answer to that is emphatically no! By any standards, this is a lot of spinning nonsense. There is a difference between arguing well and being right. Avoidance of reality might be good for an internet argument, but it is disastrous for this nation.

So perhaps you can tell me what you think I would see? Whatever it might be it won’t be representative of the UK as a whole anymore than Whitechapel was in the 60s. Which is somewhere I did walk around, at night, very well aware of its reputation but never felt under threat. Mind your own business and don’t go looking for trouble and generally it won’t find you.

Is good advice that would serve us all well if heeded by those determined to blame immigration for all our problems. Looking at ourselves rather more critically would produce better outcomes.

What is then, according to you? The situation as a whole. Not just in deprived inner city areas. From Lands End to John O’Groats and every corner in between. That’s what statistics measure. Not just the brick in the wall directly in front of your eyes. Local problems demand local solutions.

I moved to France 21 years ago, the UK has changed out of all recognition now.....I have French citizenship but I am still an immigrant.....I will NEVER be French I will ALWAYS be English...

So, according to you in this post, we have to believe statistics & ignore what we see with our own eyes, is that right?

If you've no intention of going there's not much point but this'll give a clue. Minding your own business isn't enough now.
