Well, that was another frustrating end to a game and more points thrown away. A bit more composure in front of goal and Palace would have won comfortably. Too often bad decision making in the final third saw chances go to waste. A couple of my observations ; Munoz disappointed me in the second half. He sold himself by going too soon against his opponent and got skinned on a number of occasions. Needs to calm that Latin temperament. When attacking he started to cut the ball back onto his weaker foot rather than playing the early ball across the face of goal. Palace were still chasing a second goal deep into time added on. Better game management required, Luton had far too much space to exploit for their goal.

It's a lesson, Should have, could have didn't Is more than a lesson its basic full backing. If you show a winger the outside he has to run past you and a left footed right winger will be showing the fb the ball In the event he had a runner going past him that he had to cover giving Townsend the chance to go inside. He should've been picked by Eze who basically makes less than a token attempt to deal with it The whole move started with Ahamada being needlessly caught on the ball Of the 3 of them Mitchell wasn't the worst

How annoying that was I see differences in play, having Munoz allows 3 at the back, we have a higher press (not that pressing was ever much of a thing under Hodgson), far less across the park looking for an opening but the main issue is still there, it falls apart when the subs come on. I'm pretty sure Hughes was a good attacking midfielder at Watford with Viera changing him to CM/DM to suit his needs, I don't think he's that effective in that position, that for sure needs a rethink. I'd also put him on the powder for strength I'd like to see Ozoh at the end of the games he appears to have the strength for that role and certainly the energy Glasner reads all my posts so that will happen at the next game Edited by dreamwaverider (10 Mar 2024 10.40am)

It may seem to you that OG had Mitchell in mind but not to me. There were two Luton attackers threatening down the RH side with two Palace Players, TM and Ebs in attendance. What ensued was a situation we've seen countless times in matches and if we have, then TM and Ebs have too: The winger overlaps in order to draw the LB out wide, leaving space for Andros. The full back must go with the winger, and he assumes that the other defender, Ebs, will then take Andros: it's simple. What followed was a clear case, imo, of Ebs not doing his defensive duty. Instead of seeing the wide player and anticipating that he will need to close Andros down, he remains where he is. By the time Andros receives the ball, he has all the time in the world to decide what he wants to do and we all know what that is going to be: get the ball on his left and cross into the area. Ebs not only didn't respond quickly enough and close him down but, when Andros did make the cross, he made that silly, half-hearted attempt to block the cross by doing that sort of balletic, one leg in the air while I turn my back job: defensively non-existent. In short, there were two attackers vs two defenders and it should have been dealt with if both had done their job. Mitchell did, Ebs didn't. Can you imagine the cartloads of crap Tyrick would've taken on here if he'd let the attacker go without tracking him? I love Ebs but in the modern game, when we defend, we all should be doing the job to defend in all areas of the pitch until we regain possession. All the best teams do it and managers expect it, or else they find someone who will. As has been said, if Pep saw one of his hugely talented players not carrying out their responsibilities, he'd drop them for someone who does. We don't have that luxury, sure, but that doesn't mean Ebs is immune to his duties, does it? Just my opinion, the way I saw it, PA. Edited by Glazier#1 (10 Mar 2024 10.42am)

I think Glasner’s late substitutions have been odd in last two games and seem to boil down to “let’s get some fresh legs on”. which is a worrying red flag and shows a lack of guile. They could almost have been decided on before the match started. A very good Manager will react to what he sees happening on the pitch in real time. Southgate is also bad at that. I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but with our terrible track record towards the end of games, Ayew and Wharton should have stayed as both looked solid. Bring on the more experienced Schlupp replacing Mitchell who looked shaky again yesterday and has issues with reading the game, passing and confidence.
Moan over.

What Glasner said was that he was not concerned about the ball being played outside by Townsend as he didn’t see that as dangerous.

Moan over. Well, you're '' moan '' is pretty well ill informed. Ayew has been carrying a knock and looked knackered. Wharton looks to be still adjusting to the demands of Premier League football and was ( once again ) starting to tire. You could justifiably complain about the lack of quality on the bench but not the rationale behind the substitutions. As for bringing on Schlupp, difficult ask bearing in mind he wasn't even in the matchday squad.

Eze hardly broke sweat running back to counter the threat and then made a token effort in trying to stop the cross. Yet another late goal, I was 'Spitting feathers' and in a hissy fit. If you was to question subs selection that is different story I mentioned this in another thread Ahamada has offered 0 yet every game under this manager he has given him a chance. Wharton is knacked you can see it also you need to protect young players long term it will take it's toll. Schlupp was missing again the last time he was in squad was Chelsea game People are questioning Mitchell for the goal he made the correct choice that was down to Eze at fault watch it Mitchell tracks and lines himself up with the other defenders which you should do forcing the opposition player to have to halt run otherwise offside. This is the problem with this system unless three up top are pressing and winning the ball you run into trouble. We didn't win this game because of missed chances Mateta should have had 3. Plus likes of Eze trying to much fancy tricks when should have kept the ball even put it in corner.

Agreed, Munoz has disappointed me in all second half performances in all his matches so far, especially after about 60 minutes. I do wonder when 1:0 up like yesterday and the Spurs match that Clyne could be a good replacement for him which may help us more defensively? I also like that more on here are now realising that as good as the silky skills shown by Eza that his work rate isn’t good enough for the team and needs working on.
