If it happens it could be on a par with Olise and Eze. Not sure we should get our hopes up as this is West Ham gazumping time.

I sincerely hope he signs. Of what I've seen of him he is a very good prospect. If the Colombian is used the quickest possible, I think that brighter days may dawn. Providing that Roy doesn't have the belief that he is 3d choice after Ward and Clyne. Returning to Wharton he will be a hell of an addition. AS LONG as both will be used!

I'm definitely pro this signing but for me does raise some questions. Does he come straight into the first 11 (replacing Richards)? Is the intention that next season he replaces Lerma or Docoure? I'm presuming he'll be above Ozoh (and hughes and Jairo) in the pecking order? Assuming the above do we need to quickly find a loan for Ozoh?

Furthermore, I would be surprised if Jairo stays here much longer (could have said that last few season though) and I think Hughes' days are numbered, especially without Roy here. He looks a slightly different player to Ozoh but Dave is one player I have high(er) hopes and expectations for! Finally, I am guessing the ask of him will be to do his darned best to replace Lerma (as Doucoure, if he comes back OK, would be a far bigger ask). Edited by Nicholas91 (30 Jan 2024 3.24pm)
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I wonder if Parish is keen to push this through today so that the atmosphere at SP will be less toxic? Announcing two signings the day of arguably our biggest game so far this season would be a big lift even if neither are actually going to play.

Edited by Nicholas91 (30 Jan 2024 3.24pm) Yeah Jairo and Hughes are out of contract in the summer and I'd assume both will go. And Wharton has half a season to prove he starts ahead of Lerma. The thought of having competition for places feels so odd, so used to having a huge gulf between the first team and the bench.

Yes, but look out for him in the director's box tonight. He will be the little 12 year old with a shaved head.

The obvious destination for him would be Blackburn I was wondering the same. They have a gap to fill and he'd be better off playing 20/30 games for them.

The thought of having competition for places feels so odd, so used to having a huge gulf between the first team and the bench. I assumed they want him to ultimately forge a partnership with Lerma rather than replace him as a starter. Doucoure will then have to fight for his place next season. Jairo yes, but getting rid of Hughes. Really? I can see him remaining in situ as regular bench warmer, cup player, damage limiter / lead holder, and starter in extremis if we suffer another glut of injuries as we did tale end of last year.
