I agree with most on here that last nights game from A palace fan viewpoint was a big disappointment. I do not understand why we set-up like this for a cup game, maybe Roy forgot it was a FA Cup tie and thought he was going to get a point for the draw. Why did we not set up with more attacking intent, we should have had both Mateta and Edouard starting and benched Schlupp. Poor Franca, what a game in which to get your first start, the physical side of Everton was hard for him and whilst he did show one or two moments of potential, he was out of the game for long periods which demonstrated how difficult it is moving up to this level from a league where he is used to flair and skill as opposed to the skill and physicality of the EPL. The passing last night was very poor especially out of defence and in mid field, I lost count of how many times we gave the ball away. We are so painfully slow in getting forward and in to the last third, sadly we really pose no real threat to opposition defences whatsoever. The balance of the players and team is all wrong and needs sorting fast. Mr Parish get spending otherwise you may regret it!

I think I picked up that Eze and Hughes don't pass to each other. If that's because they don't like each other, I don't know. Doesn't seem ideal. Hughes is a fantastic midfield enforcer with a very defensive mindset which is why he is always selected. However, he can't pass to save his life which is why he is normally on the bench. Note, when Anderson gets the ball, our players spray off in all directions leaving defences to work out which effective pass he is going to make. When Hughes gets the ball, another player has to come close so Hughes can make the simple pass to them and let them do the passing. In attacking terms, he is a passenger and this is why players like Eze don't pass to him.

I've always admired Roy and what he has achieved for this club, but that was an incredibly turgid game to watch. Scarcely able to string 4 to 5 passes together and so predictable. However, I look at the bench and there is no one I fancied coming on who would change it. Is some of the fault Roy's. Yes. I still more with SP and the board though. Last 3 windows have not addressed major squad gaps and have just made the situation worse. We have bought players like Franca, Ahamada, Ebiowei and Plange on the grounds that they are young, have potential and we can sell them on for profit. The reality is we also need players for now, and we haven't bought them. Franca looks like he has raw ability, but I have no confidence whether the rest will ever make it as Premier League footballers. Can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. And overall our squad is a sow's ear. A sprinkling of 6-7 good players doesn't make a good squad, especially when you factor in injuries. Whilst I think it’s fine to acknowledge there are glaring holes in our squad, I think Roy’s rigidity is what leads us to not rate so many of our squad players - they look crap under Roy because he has no idea how to get anything out of them if they don’t slot perfectly into his low block. Players can look completely different under different managers and systems, and my view is many of our squad players are good enough to contribute, but we don’t allow any room for them to do so. When I compare our squad to teams like Everton and Bournemouth there’s just no way we should be as inferior as we are.

I know he had a couple of seasons where he played a lot in the PL for Watford but they were hardly a roaring success. I don't even think he's that great defensively, probably for the same reason as his passing not being great - he seems about half a yard behind the game. The number of times he goes flying in to a tackle and the other player nips it away before Hughes crashes into him is getting silly. When he does a big booming tackle it's highlight reel stuff that sits in the memory, but the number of times he jumps in, gets beaten and the other team are at our back 4 leaves a lot to be desired.

I very much expect I did sit through a plethora of turgid games and perhaps I have been inflicted with "Good old days" syndrome. I recall the days in the lower divisions when I got soaked to the skin whilst on the Holmesdale Terrace and witnessing games at an empty Selhurst Park. All in the dim and distant past and I was not so ripe in years. As for the present I do not expect dazzling displays of excitement each and every game but our abject home form and displays this and previous seasons has tried my patience. Game on game we witness bland performances, some could be described as dire, and in all honesty my time could be better spent just following proceedings from the warmth of my abode and not having to endure a 4 hour round-trip. What is your opinion of the sending off Willow my good man , please give me your take on it and i will kindly give you mine.

Sadly as many have already said we have 6/7 quality EPL players who would make any EPL squad but as for the rest, they are championship or lower at best, then there are a bunch of youngsters who warm the bench but can't make any real contribution, they should be out on loan getting game time and improving their match skills rather than bench sitting just because Parish & his fellow Directors do not want to spend any money putting together a EPL standard quality squad of players and as a result our good players are overworked and as a consequence prone to injury!

In attacking terms, he is a passenger and this is why players like Eze don't pass to him. Whilst I agree his main strengths are out of possession, the numbers don't particularly support the notion that he can't pass; He has a pass completion rate of 84% this season, which is actually a career best. Across his entire career he's averaged 79% pass completion. For context; Lerma has an 81% pass completion rate this season, and a career average of 80% Schlupp has 75% this season and a 73% average. Doucoure has 87% this season and an 85% career average.
All of that suggests that Hughes is competent in keeping the ball but can struggle to break lines with forward passes, which I think is accurate.

Suggesting we only have 6 or 7 Prem quality players is hyperbolic. Everton's bench yesterday was: Pickford, Patterson, Keane, Gomes Betuncal, Andre Gomes, Godfrey, Ramalho, Hunt, Dobbin. Bournemouth's bench when they humped us was: Mepham, Brooks, Rothwell, Ouattara, Tavernier, Moore, Kilkenny, Billing, Travers The same night our bench was: Tomkins, Franca, Mateta, Clyne, Hughes, Ebiowei, Ahamada, Riedewald, Matthews The gulf in quality between those benches and ours is really not that drastic.
