Keep reading this bollocks that we haven't got players on the bench that can change a game. How do you all know this, we haven't seen them fcuking play. Proper game management over the course of 19 games we would know who is and isn't capable by now. Ebiowei, França, Ahamada, Rak, Ozoh, we should know if they are good enough by now but we don't cos the manager basically calls them s***e, on a weekly basis.

I understand the frustration, yes and maybe Roy could have made earlier changes from the bench, but then we have to be honest there is not much on there to choose from on there and the reality is we have very few players who are good enough to play at this level, that is not his fault. The decision to bring Roy back was frankly, I fear, because he was probably the only one that was prepared to accept the job with a virtually zero transfer budget. Sadly no decent Manager will want this job whilst we have a board who think they can do everything on a prayer and fresh air. As it stands it looks highly unlikely that we will survive this year which another reason why we will not attract any good players in the next window or a proven quality Manager. It is what it is and SP is ultimately the person who has to shoulder the blame! Yes, although it's clear we need some fresh impetus from a new manager who can revitalise a tired looking side, no manager in their right mind would come here for the reasons you state.

As much as I hate to say it, this team needs to relegate and re-set and re build.

If we aren't fit enough that's still the manager's fault. I actually think your second paragraph is much nearer the mark though. Our style of play is exhausting, and I don't just mean to watch. You expend far more energy chasing the ball around than you do if you have possession and if you are going to do that, you need to make use of the subs to keep the energy levels up. We just run the same core if players into the ground every game and it's why we get injuries and why we concede late goals. I agree with this. Based on an easy to see reduction in energy, Hughes or Ozoh should have come on for Richards, Schlupp for Ayew, Franca for Eze as soon as Chelsea started to get a grip on the game. This isn’t a benefit of hindsight comment, it was easy to see which players were tired. Ayew couldn’t afford a booking so whilst he needn’t have come off, he was more likely to hang a leg out at the end of the game and get the booking that would keep him out the Brentford game.

The real question is whether we genuinely only have 12-15 players who are any good. Roy clearly believes so. If he’s right then SP and DF are to blame for our league position. If not then Roy is to blame for persisting with tired players when it’s obvious we needed to bring on subs. Having said that Roy’s decision making when he finally does make substitutions is questionable. I expected Eze to come off after an hour or so given he is not match fit and given he was poor tonight.

"I thought we played very well and I thought that we deserved to get something from that game. I think that we really could have even said that a performance like that should have got us the three points, [but] that's got nothing. “So then the next question, am I frightened to death now because we are only a few points above the relegation zone? I'll answer that one for you as well. No, I'm not because it doesn't matter to me who's top of the league at this moment in time. “It doesn't matter that Aston Villa could go top last night but lose and finish third or fourth. It doesn't bother me. What bothers me is 38 games and where we're going to be. “What I think is that with this team and the way we've played the last four games – home to Liverpool where we certainly did not deserve to lose that one; Man City where we defended well and got ourselves an incredible point; Brighton, tough team, 1-1 and a decent performance; Chelsea here today, one of the top teams in the country, if not the world – we've come out here and we've matched them I think step for step. “That gives me great hope and great heart for the future. I'm sad at the moment because I think I should be sitting here now with at least one point behind.” “We just have to accept there's two referees every game, and every time something happens on the field of play and the referee makes the decision, you still have to wait several minutes just in case somebody in the studio, someone hasn't whispered in his ear that he's seen something different,” “So that happens. People will discuss and look at it themselves: ‘Was it, wasn't it?’ But the fact is we are taking away the decisions or we are trashing, if you like, the decisions of the guy on the field close to it and we're handing it over to someone in front of a TV screen. “It wasn't my obvious idea of what a penalty looks like of course, but that's the same for so many penalties I see given are not my obvious idea of what a penalty looks like because I suppose I'm conditioned to some extent by having seen penalties given and not given for very many years.” “How did I think we matched Chelsea? I thought our pressure was good,” the manager explained. “I thought we stopped them building up a play for long periods of time. “We had a good period in the first-half. We started the game very well. They had a period after maybe 15 or 20 minutes where they cut through us once or twice. “But after that I think we sorted that out and I thought in the second-half really there was possibly more action in and around their penalty area than even there was around ours. “I was comfortable with our passing throughout the game, but like everything else you need to convert if you like those opportunities and half-opportunities in around the opponent's penalty area into goals, otherwise, unfortunately, you run the risk that you'll get something at the other end.”

Is it just me or does anyone else think Lerma had a stinker? Loped around, off the pace + absolutely nothing going forward. I think Ebs, too, was off it; his deft touches were not coming off. I think he needs more game time to get up to speed.

Tbose comments do my head in. Chelsea are not one of the top teams in the world. Ignoring promoted/relegated sides who are obv missong for months, they were level with us for fewest PL points taken in 2023. That accolade will now go solely to us. Plus they have a host of injuries and suspensions. Brighton on a really poor run of form and loads of injuries. If these mid table teams are too good for us to compete with - in the manager's eyes - then we have to execute against the lower sides. The team then put in a shoddy performance against an average Bournemouth performance and he calls us spoiled. Who are we meant to beat in his eyes?!
