My avoid the drop target is still 32 points. Looking at our run of games its unfortunate that we have played teams on good runs. Our home defeats have come V Liverpool, Bournemouth, Everton, Spurs. Its easy to say we haven't won in 11 but we have come very close to getting additional draws and even wins during that time. I'm still not concerned. Supporters with whom I have engaged in debate have experienced optimism draining out of them.

Our run of form for nearly the whole calendar year has been poor other than for brief spells at the end of last season and the beginning of this season.

The first four games on Boxing Day have some relevance to us and indeed, should Luton beat Sheffield, they will only be three points away from us with a game in hand.

Man City have won the same number of trophies (4) in 2023 as Palace have won home games. So when we do win a home game and someone says it feels like winning the cup….

I am seriously considering whether it is worth my while undergoing a 4 hour round trip at my ripe age to witness our team failing to secure victories on the back of moribund performances. A long journey home in the dark in sometimes inclement weather after yet another defeat or draw is probably not advantageous to my well-being, in fact this supporter since the 60s does not look forward to attending games at Selhurst Park any longer.

I shall be watching on Amazon Prime.

I have moaned about Royball reappearing this season, but the fact Olise and Eze have not completed 90 minutes together is a massive issue for a squad with such limitations. If their injuries continue then we are in serious trouble without any notable reinforcements. If however they can both stay fit this time then I think we'll be fine (providing Eze plays in the middle!) If the club also come up trumps with a quality holding midfielder then I think we'll be comfortable. A lot of ifs and buts at the moment though.

I think we’ll win on Saturday. Don’t miss that one.

The fact that Olise and Eze have had injuries and have hardly played together this season has been hugely detrimental to our chances of securing victories.

It was in pre-season in conversation with someone I suggested Dominic Solanke but the response focussed on his poor goal return last campaign. I also suggested midfielder Pierre Ekwah whom Sunderland signed from W.Ham.I was informed that the deal included a sell-on and buy-back clause. He impressed me when I saw him plough his furrow for Sunderland. More recently I have suggested AFC Wimbledon striker Ali Al-Hamadi whom the club signed from Wycombe Wanderers. Edited by Willo (26 Dec 2023 11.02am)
