Glad I didn't go last night and elected to take the pain from the comfort of my armchair. Roy obviously has to bear responsibility for recent results and performances and his comments were unwise about the fans although perhaps a reaction to having a bottle thrown at him. How many of Ward, Schlupp, Ayew and Mitchell and even Edouard get a start in another Premier League side though ? I'm not so sure and wonder how anybody extracts an energetic performance from them or most of the subs. With regard to the change of manager I think one will be needed just to try to change things up but the strained relationships at Board level, poor squad, transfer "strategy" and previous protracted / messy / muddled appointments and departures will put many off IMO. I think SP will be seen by many as difficult to work with. The performance was abysmal, and the buck stops with the manager, but the throwing of bottle at a 76 year old is down there with the lowest points in my time. I was able to watch it through my Amazon account. I would have preferred watching a dodgy stream with a flickering picture.

Lerma put a shift in - really hope it wasn't just the motivation of playing against his old club because that should be the standard every week. Ayew put a shift in, not the highest on quality but one of the few that can say they were acceptable. Ward was dreadful. Continually beaten for pace, making the wrong decisions in possession. One of those performance when you realise their ability has gone down to a new level and it isn't going to recover. Richards isn't a midfielder. Barely a right back. Utterly clueless with the ball at his feet. He must have stayed away from Bayern Munich's midfield when they did keep ball sessions in training. Guehi, Andersen and Johnstone have all dropped their performance levels - Johnstone more so in possession. That period before half time where Richards was so bad in midfield that Guehi and Andersen took turns doing it instead was really odd. Franca isn't ever going to play. If he isn't going to get a chance last night he never is. Locks us in for worst PL signing of the season nice and early. We just cannot defend a set piece can we? Basically start every game 1-0 down due to that. Perhaps two upcoming games of sitting deep and playing on the counter will help. The ease at which Bournemouth played through us last night - doing absolutely nothing special - was frightening. Odds on Hodgson being sacked must be crashing. Wouldn't be surprised if Steve Cooper was in by the 1st Jan. Edited by ambrose7 (07 Dec 2023 1.21pm)

I thought against Everton and Luton they played ok, albeit without a cutting edge. And we definitely deserved the point v West Ham. But last night we were just plain awful. Seemingly hundreds of pointless passes between the central defenders because no-one ahead was moving. Midfield mostly pointless although Lerma was the best by far of the three. Finally Richards was put at full back where he can at least face the play. Why play him in midfield when there are alternatives is beyond me. And if I was one of the youngsters on the bench, I wouldn't bother getting changed as we all know they won't take any part in the match From Mr Hodgson's post match comments, it would seem I was watching a completely different game to him. Marc Guehi's post match interview was far more of an honest appraisal.

Right, I am going to seriously get replies for this. IF, people are really that p'eed off with what's going on, BOYCOTT going. Absence of matchday income will hurt the club more than boos n hurty words. Doubt it will happen tho as its the hope, loyalty & just the done thing to go to Selhurst.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Bournemouth were last season arguably one of the worst teams in the division. Gary O'Neill performed a minor miracle keeping them up. To try and prevent this happening again they have spent 137m Euros on new players according to Transfermarkt, and that excludes the fees for loan deals. In comparison we have spent 38m Euros, and the only one of those arrivals that is a regular is the free transfer Lerma. Agree with this - Bournemouth recruited a progressive coach, were ambitious in the transfer market, and last night that made short work of a squad severely lacking in investment and a manager who is looking increasingly out of his depth against progressive opposition. Hearing Ray Lewington screaming ‘GET IT f***IN UP THERE’ when we win a free kick on the halfway line tells me all I need to know - it’s Sunday league stuff. Roy’s comments should see him shown the door in my opinion - not just for being accusatory to the fans, but if he views that as a reasonable performance level that is worth support, that is a major concern. On the squad; it’s almost laughable. Schlupp is now our 4th highest ever appearance maker in the Prem - that alone should tell the board everything. Ward and Clyne would not stand out in the championship, and I think most clubs in the division now have a first and second choice right back better than both of ours. How on earth can a club expect to function without signing a proper full back for a decade? The whole club just reeks of a lack of ambition - you can hear it in every press conference, be it Parish or Roy - constantly managing expectations, constantly pointing to what a struggle it is, constantly talking up competitors - they clearly view where we as the pinnacle and it seeps into every decision we make.

Are they really that bad that we have to put a CH in a crucial midfield role and if they are that bad (Riedewald particularly) then why are they at our club.

Schlupp, Mitchell, Ward, Clyne, Richards - all of them are absolutely awful with a ball at their feet. How in the name of god can we be a decent team when a chunk of our players can’t even play football. Putting Mateta on again with 5 minutes to go is beyond ridiculous I have backed Roy a lot but I really hope he leaves soon..

We have no plan for getting the ball forward from a coaching perspective, let alone creating chances. The commentary around RL shouting Sunday League basics at the players further evidences what we're seeing on the pitch. The coaching and management is archaic, ineffective and detrimental to the team. We'll continually be picked to pieces by managers who not only have a more dynamic, modern approach to football but also get their teams moving and working for them. Our current set up does neither.

The team of August and September seems a distant memory. Defensively we still maintain the shape to stymie good teams, but individual mistakes have become chronic – something Roy can do little about. Our attackers remain impotent, especially in the absence of Eze, yet there I think Roy bears some responsibility for our approach, even with limited options. I'd love to hear today's conversation between Roy and Steve Parish.
