Looking at reaction of wolves fans , a lot saying we are 1 or 2 players away from being a brilliant side, thought they were very lucky and relieved plus there keeper had a blinder , so after initial frustration at the loss , positives can be taken , however Lokonga can go back to arsenal now if he wants

Good to see some level headed posts this morning.

I completely agree that whilst the changes leave Roy open to scrutiny you naturally, and I would suggest logically, assume that there were reasons behind them.

The first goal is just sloppy defending from a set piece where we hadn't woken up properly however beyond a good delivery, which is the least you expect at this level, was just sheer bad luck and not something Wolves can claim any real credit for.

Equally, the penalty right at the end was circumstantially forced, off the back of our own error, and lightning happened to strike twice for them where beyond that they looked even less likely than us to score.

Even with the changes including an entire midfield we would not expect to and haven't seen elsewhere, we had the better play. We were in and around their goal more however to again echo another poster the early goal allowed them to set up camp and severely reduce the opportunity to create chances.

It's a game that has left me furious but that anger is not directed at the manager or players and more just the luck which completely sided with Wolves on the night. On most other days the first corner is cleared, Olise penalty given, we probably nick another and the situation for conceding a penalty at the end does not come about. I try not to negate or berate others for complaining but I am inclined to just chalk it off as a bad night at the office and don't think there was enough there to really constitute criticism for the manager there.

If we look similarly unable to score vs WHU I will then ask as to why we shot and scored so freely for three games and then just reverted back to where we were so quickly however until then... COYP.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Agree with you Nick - nice to see some level-headed posts. Basically, we didn't play badly. It was one of those nights where what could go wrong did from the o.g. to the penalty and in between, a ref who didn't know who was actually fouling whom Dawson/Ayew, Dawson/Hughes etc., a penalty not given and a player who didn't have the right boots on leading to a slip when we should have been putting the finishing touches to the best move of the match.

We lost a game despite being the better team but then how often have we won games against teams who were better on the night?

Agree with all the level headedness. Geez, what's going on!

Silly goal put us on the back foot. Never really felt like they were going to score another.

We played some nice, confident football at times. And look a player or 2 away from being a serious outfit.

I think we all know this, but Luka (whilst didnt play badly) isn't good enough to impact the game at this level. Eze needs to play more centrally and be unshackled of so many defensive duties.

Whilst not spectacular, I thought Hughes was especially good tonight. He's got tight enough control to get involved in the 1 touch stuff with Eze and Olise.

We can’t win every game.
However, we can give ourselves the best chance of winning every game by selecting our strongest available team on the day.
We didn’t do this yesterday and many of us were calling this out as soon as we saw the lineup.
We’re not in Europe or the FA Cup and we are not mathematically safe so there is no need to rotate .
Experiment once we are safe if that is the desire, but not at this stage.
The selection of Richards at right back, a second string midfield and Eze on the left of a front 3 (when he has been excelling in midfield) made us a weaker team and had the effect of slowing the momentum built up in the previous four games.
We looked appreciably better and more balanced in the second half with Ward restored at right back and with Eze and Schlupp in midfield.
None of the above is suggesting Roy is a bad manager or has not done a good job on his return, but it is querying the need to make unnecessary changes for an important game when our avowed intention is to look up the table rather than over our shoulder.

Doesn't take away the pure fact that Wolves were very very fortunate to win that game, I watched one team aided by a referee throughout scoring the flukiest of fluky goals within minutes of kick off and then sit back and frustrate the crap out of us.

Judging from these comments it seems to me that if Hodgson would have put out the team that had been doing well since his return then we may well have fared better. Of course it is difficult to say for certain because the early goal set out Wolves' strategy from then on in.
I think Roy put out the wrong side for a game that was winnable. 3 points in the here and now is better than resting a couple of players or assessing others.

I’m just re watching it and I’m still absolutely baffled by two things

1. How we were able to score 2!! Own goals from the same corner

2. How in the name of God on earth! Did Lokonga’s shot not hit the net ? I know it was a good save but , you wouldn’t save that 99 times out of 100!!!

Eze has always been terrible out wide, ayew has done a good enough job, so he decides to put eze our wide and ayew through the middle, just makes no sense.

Someone else has mentioned it but the massive irony of last night was that performance and win for Wolves was almost copy and pasted from the Palace playbook of years past!

At least we know how our opponents have probably felt at those times.

I could only follow the sky text commentary last night, but also just watched the extended highlights on Palace TV. Must say I'm
surprised at all the negative comments - hopefully it's reactionary coz we lost - as both commentary and Highlights suggested we incredibly unlucky to come away 2-0 losers.

Plenty of good saves by Sa - including 1 of the best reactionary Save from lakonga, and a few from Eze long distance. We appeared to have created the best chances, but gifted them 2.

If we had a striker in form then we'd be laughing. I still think that of the current bunch, Mateta's the one who deserves a run in the team - just think with a run of games he'll actually score occasionally.

As for SJs error - think that's the first one I've seen him do in 4 games. Apart from that, looked solid throughout, again.

I would say, most of the comments are positive on this thread? Otherwise, agree with your comments; especially starting Mateta from Saturday to see if he can cut it? Westham will be difficult, want a win but will take a point again towards safety :-)

If we’re testing some players then Mateta needs to start Saturday. I don’t know what the poor guy has to do to get ahead of Edouard. He may possibly be just a donkey but he’s a donkey that runs up and down for 90 minutes and occasionally hoofs one into the net.

We don’t have another transfer window to buy a striker, Ayew who has been our best player recently looks lost upfront although I understand that experiment and Edouard offers literally nothing.

I’d have Mateta as first name on team sheet until the end of the season and if we score 0 goals until then so be it. It would at least prove to Parish we need to buy a Striker yet again.

Totaly agree, with Mateta starting, infact, every game until the end of the season, i think most fans have decided that Edouard is not good enough, these games should tell us if Mateta is worth keeping.
