I'm still too cross and annoyed to say anything.

That was frustrating and annoying in equal part. Agreed. There's nothing professional about it, yet these chumps get paid a fortune week in week out. How difficult is it to punt a ball into touch, down by the farthest corner flag? A kick upfield in rugby that gains territory is applauded, in football with 20 seconds left it is just common sense. Amateur.

One win would make such a difference. Yesterday's finale was tragic. The game plan to stop at source the supply line from crosses worked well. But then that careless loss of possession from Ayew gave Brentford the time and space to deliver that ball to the far post. An even bigger shame given that I thought Ayew had a very good game up until then. Brentford are a difficult opponent that better teams than Palace have struggled to cope with. While there were positive signs and performances yesterday, I fail to see what Mateta brings to the party. I've really had enough of seeing this imposter play. There were 3 errors for the goal, i think Ayew's was the least of them. Ayew did not give Brentford time and space to deliver the cross, that was Richards. He acted like a 10 year old. Firstly he was nowhere near his man and when he realised he was out of position rather than closing him down he did the exact opposite and retreated into the box. Bizarre defending. Please don't tell me he doesn't usually play a LB, any player knows you have to close the man with the ball down. Then the header. A midfielder makes a completely unchallenged run into the box. Who was on him? No one tracker was within 10 yards of him. Just not good enough. PV seems clueless as to how to manage the clock down and for a squad of professionals with a combined weekly wage of c£1m this is just unacceptable. None of which would have mattered had Ayew not given away possession.

Just saw the seconds before their goal for the first time. 1) Ahamada presses the centre back when he has absolutely zero need to with seconds to go, which opens up the pass into midfield. Baffling decision. Needs that part of his game corrected ASAP. 2) Eze then doesn't see his man run off him because he's ball watching. 3) Schlupp sees Eze's man has run off him and, despite having no defensive responsibility of his own at the time, takes one step towards dealing with it but then decides not to. 4) Ayew watches Janelt run unmarked into the box whilst jogging behind him. For them to score, 4 different players have f***ed up in the space of 10 seconds. If any one of them had done the right thing, Brentford don't score. Why oh why oh why was Hughes/McArthur not in that midfield for the last 10 minutes?!

Think it was more down to Mitchell getting injured and lack of cover on the left by Eza as the reason we conceded yesterday. Mitchell was having a really good game with most of Brentford’s attacks down his side. Once he went off they capitalised on it. Not sure Richards was the correct choice to replace Mitchell with Schlupp still on the pitch who could have covered. If anything we needed someone else playing left midfield than Eze to support whoever came on as well. Ayew didn’t help at the end but in truth we gave the ball away constantly throughout the 96 minutes as well as our main forward not being able to hold the ball up to relieve pressure on the midfield/defence. But I would have taken that point before the match. We are in for a tough end of season unless we start getting some wins in? Relegation is a strong possibility the way we are playing I’m afraid :-(

Ayew has space to run or return ball down the line to Eduoard. In stead he tries a cross field pass to Eze…why? There was less than a minute left. 100% Ayew fault

Watching the U21 on Palace TV the other day - Mark Bright quoted someone (I didn't hear who) but he said something like - on average every goal conceded has at least 3 defensive mistakes in the build up where there was a fair chance that goal could have been prevented - Originally posted by ambrose7

Yes he can hold onto the ball, so that makes his attempted pass in the last minute even more frustrating

Kind of reminds me of the similar outcome when we played Brighton last year, 1.0 up, 90 + minutes gone, Guita kicks it upfield straight to one of their players next thing you know Maupay scores the equalizer - Originally posted by YT
