Mr Madley was not wrong about many of the decisions he made but the problem was that the decisions against us were given whereas the decisions against them were not given. A very biased game by him. We started poorly but if the ref had given all the necessary decisions then maybe we could have pulled out a draw.
Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course). |

Bobby Madley didn't do us many favours either.

No complaints about either sending off against Fulham but Madley’s all round performance was diabolical as it was when we lost 3-0 at Liverpool last year. Both games he’s appeared to have decided before the game he wasn’t going to give any free kicks for challenges on Zaha. It’s a joke that he’s a Premier League ref and demonstrates how far standards have slipped.

Thought I would never say this, but it was actually good to have Mariner back as ref. Some of the newer ones are not up for PL. Good too, to see Hughes and Mateta doing well when they came. Edouard however, hardly did anything right.

Vieira summed it up in the week, with a lot of young players the performances can be inconsistent, its a problem.

He was born with a frown on his face and has developed a perpetual limping gait. He always looks like he's in pain. Don't get me wrong; I love him. Proper honest. It just makes me laugh.

Some Bournemouth supporters did ! "Also a very poor game for a weak referee in Andre Marriner who basically lost control of the game. Palace players were constantly talking to him, even one stage a player through the ball away to stop our freekick and didn’t get booked" Supporters have a proclivity never to criticise a referee when their team wins but he/she is the focus of their ire when their team is defeated ! It was actually a Bournemouth player that threw the ball away when we got a free kick. The ref looked at them as though to say ‘it’s your time your wasting. ‘

You can only beat what’s in front of you. Yesterday in front of us was a team devoid of energy , creativity and even plenty of the basics. Apparently their squad had been laid low with a bug and it sure looked like it. There is no comparison between yesterday’s Bournemouth and the Fulham side who ran rings round us last week. What it tells me is we will beat poor sides in this division but will seriously need to up our game if we are to get anything from our next 4 league fixtures. Let’s hope there are a mouth poor sides to see us to safety

Somebody may have mentioned it but I've noticed us being better with Ward at left back a couple of times. The reason seems to be he has better defensive qualities. Then, when he goes forward he's not trying to cross as he's on his weaker foot, so he plays a simple ball - either inside to Eze or Schlupp, or lays the ball off to Zaha. He then supports or goes back to defend in transition better than Mitchell. In that way he plays more to his strengths and the better ball players get the ball quicker. I've thought for a while that bombing down the wing is a bit much for Mitchell and all the running is tiring him out. He gets caught out, particularly late in games - hence our propensity to lose or draw from winning positions. Add in that Ward isn't going as far forward on the right, and Clyne tends to generally support or defend, we're more solid at the back with Ward and Clyne playing.

Although Fulham were undoubtedly the better side early on, it was finished as a contest with the sending offs and it would’ve been a surprise if Fulham hadn’t run rings round us as you say Edited by monkey (01 Jan 2023 5.10pm)
