Err, no we haven't. While I'd agree our attack could use strengthening, it's wrong to say we've been weak in the final third. We've scored 49 goals which puts us 10th in the goalscoring table. Not a strength, not a weakness. Bang average. Which is just about right.

Furthermore, I would pretty much guarantee that with full seasons next year from Eze and Olise, those two will make up for the goals we lose when Gallagher departs. Agree, we do need more but it's not what I'd call a problem area.

What we need is one of Edouard or Mateta to step up and prove to be a really Premier League quality centre forward. They don't have to be 20 goal scorers, but if we got 15 out of our main striker it'd make a vast difference. That's what we've missed having this year.

This is an acceptable return from a modern day striker.

I don't think our forwards have done that bad. If it was so easy to score in relation to chances made then City and Liverpool should win every game by 6 or 7. But they don't. Sure, we've missed some good chances but most clubs do.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree here.

We are not a '' new team '' we are a club that has now racked up 10 consecutive seasons in the Premier League.

We have considerable Premier League experience throughout the squad together with the younger element that have performed so well as to receive international recognition.

Scoring goals is a problem not unique to us. Outside of the top 6 clubs most find this an issue. At least this season we have been competitive in the vast majority of the games we have played and that has enabled us to have a positive goal difference.

The squad needs fine tuning over the summer. I'm sure, again, most clubs will feel the need to do likewise.

As for losing our best player, no we're not. On 2 counts. He's not our player. Neither has he been the best player at Palace this season. While I'm not undervaluing his contribution, I think a combination of his style of play and media hype around him has elevated him to a point where some bang average performances have been overlooked.

All good points especially the last about CG. I like him and would like to keep him but if Chelsea moves him on I'm ok with it. This year we look to end with a positive GD which iirc we haven't done in a while. It's a small step, but we're still building.

As nothing has been reported, can we assume Everton will not be punished? How long does a FA Investigation take, considering all the on line footage? Palace not lodging a complaint ?

Mateta will never, ever score 15 goals in the premier league. He's simply not good enough. What we NEED to do is find a way to play Eduoard/Benteke into form and supply them with the service they need. These guys both have goals in them if we can unlock it. Or if we're not going to favour them, that should be a #1 priority. Otherwise there's too much pressure on young Plange shoulders.

Mateta came to us & struggled ( apart from the Brighton goal) had fitness issues ( & allegedly covid) during the beginning of this season & didnt really appear until half the season was done -
Quite honestly, with a decent pre season & a healthy campaign this season with the amount of chances we create I can see him getting 15 goals a season.

Mateta has goals in him, given the right supply line. His running off the ball and work rate are far better than Eduoard ( and I am a fan of his). JPM has improved massively over the season and DE has it spot on in his post

Give it a rest, you sound like you have lost the plot

I agree.

Whilst I do not think we have a new Lewandowski in Mateta he certainly knows where the goal is.

It is nice to have a forward once again who is sure that is his position and you can see he has his sights firmly set on the goal when playing.

Benteke, Ayew, Edouard and a few more over the past years seem to have forgotten that the first requisite of their job is to score goals, Mateta seems quite sure of this.

Young, good workrate, can finish, half decent on the ball and whilst I'd like to see more of him in the air he's hardly short in stature.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

In JPM we trust.

But not just him. 10-15 from Wilf, and 5-10 from Olise and Eze.

The guys are all talented enough.
