I've been reading the comments by Liverpool supporters about the match report in the Guardian. Almost all think the penalty decision was a joke. At the match I saw Friend trying to justify his decision to the Palace players afterwards. Their expression said: You're having a laugh. It was a shocking performance by Friend all round, capped by one of the worst penalty decisions I have ever seen. Who can think of one that was worse? The one that was awarded to Scummerpool for a foul on Benteke .

Our best spell in the game seemed to me to coincide with when we moved to a 442 with Olise wide right and Shlupp wide left (where he looks far more comfortable). Totally agree, pulling Schlup back into the middle was a strange decision. We were hurting them with him switched to left? Makes our midfield weak with him in the middle - strange decision. And of course the penalty decision completely screwed us. How VAR and then Friend gave that is beyond me. I always give referees support as it’s a hard job but now they have VAR and still get it wrong. Friend the new Clattenburg :-(

Cheat, aided by what can only be corruption by this stage. I would forgive it if it were incompetence, but too many decisions in this game stacked against us. The game contained a number of decisions that were plain wrong. Three going against Palace, were so bad , only incompetence or cheating can explain them. An honest mistake is still a mistake., and if you keep making them it’s obvious you are out of your depth, and shouldn’t be doing the job. Games are being decided or ar least heavily influenced by these very dodgy decisions week in week out now. So what is it?

Two successive games and PV puts Schlupp centrally. One would have thought after today PV finally gets it - Schlupp is not, and never will be, a dominant holding central midfielder. Incidentally the 4-3-3 is looking dubious, particularly with the players selected to implement it. The old square peg round hole conundrum again.

The referee and the VAR referees were looking for something that simply wasn't there. They are inventing ludicrous explanations to cover their tracks, over the offside as well. The ball has clearly gone from Jota's control and is going out of play. They are saying his ability to control the ball was impaired, but the ball had gone already.

I just don't understand this making the ref go over to look at it again. Its basically his boss telling him to 'look at it again' If its a pen give it. If its 50/50 stick with the ref's original decision.

The only formation we can play with what we have is 4-4-2, its so obvious, Schlupp, Hughes, Gallaher and Olise, Mateta and Eduoard up top with Ayew as the chande of striker and play longer, Andersen hitting these 50 yarders to the wings, wilf an option on return, wide or central.
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |
