The reason the EU exists is a great deal more complicated and important than who decides on where our overseas aid goes. Which is why the decision over membership needs to be taken by those we elect to study the issues, who have access to impartial experts and the time to consider and debate them. Not by us basing our decision on emotion, personal obsessions or the effect of marketing campaigns. We need to trust our politicians and to do that we need to elect better politicians.

How can you elect better politicians when those entering politics are rarely trustworthy or are not already one eyed single party aligned before they start. They should be representative of the people and not representative of a party system.

Look at the Covid figures, and you'd think the Government couldn't organise a pish-up in a brewery.
How wrong I was,...

Which is why we need to see a greater number of smaller parties and a loosening of the ties that bind them. Our politicians need to be able to vote with the conscience and not by the diktat of a party machine, whipped into line by threats of de-selection if they fail to toe the line. We need people to see it as an honourable profession, well rewarded whilst serving and well regarded when not. No MP should fear losing their job through voting conscientiously.

We need the best to come to serve us, and not chancers seeking opportunities.

On this we are in total agreement.

George Washington and Ben Franklin felt the same way unfortunately no one else did. Across the world politicians organise themselves into parties and vote according to the party platform to varying degrees.

Lots of small parties with MPs voting by their conscience sounds great but in many countries what this really means is that minority parties hold the balance of power and hold undue influence over the larger parties e.g. DUP when Mrs May was in trouble or the extreme regilious parties in Israel.

I don't like the current system but I have yet to see a better alternative.

Boris is currently 4/9 to go this year, 6/4 2023 or later, and 3-1 2024 or later.

So it's certainly looking like he could be on the way out, but by no means a certainty. Somewhat in the balance still.

Boris almost certainly won't quit. The trickle of photos would have to become an avalanche of seriously compromising stuff, and even then I think he'll have to be forced out.
He's going to take the whole Tory party and Government with him when he goes. The longer he leaves it, the whole much more destructive it's going to be.

What will emerge the other side (in terms of Governance), is of bigger concern.

I recognise the problem and agree it needs to be addressed. The last thing we need are extremists holding the country to ransom. My hope is by loosening the control that Parties have over their MPs people of goodwill can make arrangements or build grand coalitions. It must surely be possible to devise a series of rules which ensured influence proportionate to the number of MPs any party held.

I listened to some alternative views last night and although Boris is in deep doo doo and almost certainly told some untruths two points of view were interesting.
One Lady caller to a talk show - Remember that he is a human being - not a punchbag in other words - who personally suffered great trauma through the pandemic and who has also been under more pressure than any PM bar during wars over the last 20 months (and I do not include slimey Blair in that list) and that he currently has been relentlessly beaten up by all and sundry both in the House and in the media - and so despite his mistakes think about him nearly dying and his Mum passing and so on plus his overall responsibility.
A Red Wall MP - who I presume had not been bribed - who said that he sold Conservative policies to his constituents based on what Boris said and that he won his seat on that basis and in his mind the Party has been delivering and that his Town was doing much better than before and so he would support his Prime Minister 100%albeit he wanted to see the Sue Gray report.
He thought that the defector yesterday was an absolute disgrace to the party and parliament - particularly in the way that he went about it as well.
Finally - someone asked why everything that Cunmmings says is taken as Gospel truth?
It is seeping out that the email he referred to was in fact sent to the Secretary and not Boris so Cummings was not being truthful and to my mind he is scum anyway given the way he has behaved.
In any event - Boris has not been a good boy but taking the above into account and the fact that he won a landslide victory, that he got Brexit done and that our vaccine rollout is amazing and that behind the scenes there is stuff going on with policy that we never hear about then maybe he should be given one more chance.
Add to that - the only reason that Labour want him out is because they are scared of him!
I now await the slaughter!
