Can’t ever remember being so pleased and encouraged after a defeat. We were far better than against Norwich and I’d say it was actually one of our best performances of the season. A well reasoned response to a defeat. Even although I should be used to it at my age, I need time to see things a bit more clearly after losing ! My thoughts ; 1. Edouard I really like for his positivity. Still very young and still adjusting to the levels required in this league, but heading in the right direction.

Although 3-0 at half time felt unjust it was down to quality on West Ham's part and a lack of on ours rather than bad luck IMO. The cross for their first and Lanzini's goal were top drawer. I thought it was interesting that for all our approach play a few old fashioned high balls into the box really rattled them towards the end and Mateta looked a real handful in the air. Luck did in my opinion played a bit part in the result. WHU first could have bounced slightly higher and Guaita saves it, Eduoard's shot or/and Schlupps shots struck slightly differently and instead of hitting the woodwork they go in. I also thought Benteke had a couple of shots between defender's leg's that might have got a deflection. The hand ball was a 50/50 decision as well.

Moyes and several West Ham players have admitted they didn’t play very well yesterday. 2nd half it was obvious they wanted to coast. Genuinely think that if PV had brought on Olise and Eze at HT then we would have got something from the game. The MOTD stat about Olise having a goal involvement every 63 minutes is unreal. What more does he have to do to start or at least get more minutes off the bench???

Makes no sense at all, how can a player beat another if he's being fouled?? Why do we constantly see Zaha throwing his toys out the pram? Edited by Tickled pink (02 Jan 2022 10.52am) The fouls on Ayew are often ones he initiates, or at least invites. He shields the ball, waits for contact then goes over at least as often as he looks to progress the ball forward. I don't blame him, he's a striker not a winger and he's doing his best for his team, but a more creative player, with greater vision, passing, dribbling and shooting abilities would be more positive than Ayew often is. Yes, I'd place Olise noticeably above Ayew when it comes to creativity regardless of whether Schlupp scored yesterday or not. My opinion is based on everything I've seen of both players so far. Whether Olise is physically ready to play every week, or whether his defensive play is as good, or whether the team would become a bit too narrow with a left footer on the right are all separate questions of course.

For once a result that didn't upset me as much as it should because there were many positives to take from the game.

You think it’s fine to abuse a guy while he’s trying to do his job? Very odd. You’re another who fell for the Townsend myth. Chase down the odd backpass you’re never going to get and they all bang on about “putting in a shift”. Ward offers nothing going forward. We need to upgrade. Schlupp is not a fantastic anything. 6, Refs create atmospheres so don't understand giving them less abuse at all.

Both at Spurs and yesterday our defence set up way too narrow at times, esp for their first goal - I thought Spurs exploited that deliberately and Spam definitely did, other sides will do the same no doubt, Wright pointed it out on motd and reckoned Ayew should have been protecting Ward better, we need to have a plan to counter this, one of our midfielders filling the gap before it appears. Although one assumes the great PV is on to this, we're less shaky on set pieces already, but too many defenders were taken out by Lanzini for their second, three or four all panicking and going for the same ball.
