Man City model, year on year improvement until you are good enough to attract the stars.

You are correct top players will not go to Newcastle in January but they can get better players than they have now and then improve on that next summer.

So if you are a mercenary player you can fill your pockets. They don't need Messi yet just better than what they have e.g. Aaron Ramsey £300,000 pw.

you may be right with some, but even Ramsey will be hard to get, one year contract probably

i hope Norwich can beat Leeds today.

cos as far as i can see, the former are already goosed.

And it would be nice if they can take that other lot down with them.

Norwich, Newcastle and Watford.

I think Brentford could get dragged into the mix as well.

Unless Newcastle pick up in a big way prior to the January window, I think they will have major problems getting the right players into their club.

Some of the names being bandied about ( managers included ) don't strike me as the kind that will fight a relegation battle.

This.
First step for them is getting a manager who's prepared to do the undesirable job of shoring up the defence and getting the team to be boring and difficult to beat and then buy a few decent players in January to create and score the goals they'll need.

IMO it will be touch and go whether the chosen manager and new players will be able to turn the proverbial ship round before the season end.

Sadly Norwich look near certainties already. Of the others I'm not too bothered apart from Newcastle; would like very much to see them go down, and see there zillionaire new owners ponder how to scrape together a bunch of mercenaries to battle it out in the Championship.

South American players are generally wage whores and will follow the highest money. Spanish and Portuguese will be the lingua franca of St James from next season

Yup. Every football fan (apart from the Geordies) would love that to happen.

It’s going to be really interesting to see what Newcastle do in the run up to January. The way they are going they are going to be at least 10 points adrift by then. How many top players are going to risk playing in the championship next season? I’m going with none. Apart from them Norwich are certainties and I’d have to go with Watford despite their rather surprising result at Everton.

Obviously it will take a near miracle for Norwich to avoid relegation.

I'd love Brighton to feck it up after such a brilliant start to the season (although they have been fortunate in quite a few of these results). Failing that. I'd like it to be Newcastle and Watford, bth of them are looking very poor.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

just noticed of our 10 games played, 8 have been against 10 ten teams and we've played the top 4, all away from home.

Whilst Norwich look dead, Burnley always seem to pick up results and Newcastle will have loads of money to spend in Jan.

I think the table will look more realistic after 15 or so games (other than Newcastle, where anything could happen with them).

If Leeds and Southampton are still down there, for example, then they are in for a relegation battle

Palace currently are approximately 9/1 to be relegated. Around 4 times more likely to go down than Brighton therefore, according to the market. (Brighton are 35/1).

Indeed, and even this Palace pessimist (ie realist!) believes we might feasibly have won ALL the matches we in fact drew. Thus we might now be on 24 points. Imagine that!

Looks like Everton can be added to the relegation scrap. Woeful club after the investment they have had.
