I still remember the late great Caroline Aherne in her Mrs Merton persona asking 'the lovely' Debbie McGee what first attracted her to the multi millionaire magician Paul Daniels to much laughter.

I also think it's worth clarifying; I don't think most people's outrage here is just based on the fact he had an affair - it's the fact he's had an affair whilst lecturing the country on the importance of following the rules and making a personal sacrifice for the collective good. People didn't get to say goodbye to parents and partners based on his rules, and he couldn't even sacrifice a quick shag with his mistress - how can you pretend that's not something to be outraged about?

In a world where we we seem to have messages about stopping online hate in all its forms at every possible turn, the woke types have been completely ruthless with their attacks on Matt Hancock.

I don't say he doesn't deserve criticism. Just that it comes from people that preach on thing, and then do something completely different when it suits them.

Whilst I may have been uncompromising in my opinion of some public figures, I'm quite comfortable taking flack from people with opposing views. These hypocritical lefties that are revelling in the break-up of two marriages would be the first to play a victim card if any critisism was aimed at them.

So if you cheat on your wife, and she finds out and dumps you, it's the fault of the person who told her?
