for me if you cant find a place for players like Eze in your side be it on the parks at Palace or internationally then we may as all go home .
Defending is what the others do

If you can’t defend as a professional footballer you might as well go home.

However, in fairness, I do get the point and I suspect until we get at least one proper holding midfielder in there we won’t see the best of Ebz and the others too. For clarity, once again I do not see CD as a ‘holding midfielder’ he’s very much the jack of all trades master of none CM and in my very humble opinion a darn good one. Not having a midfield, looking weak at full back and not turning up for games may also constitute good reason to be homeward bound.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Eze is a liability in midfield.

He is incapable of making a clean tackle so he reverts either to going AWOL or committing a foul.

Against Liverpool, he was guilty of both - from one needless free-kick, ‘pool were able to pump the ball into our penalty area.

Because he is such a skilful player, capable of scoring, I would put him up front as a striker with a brief to play like Jimmy Greaves.

At the very least, he should earn us a few penalties.

I thought the same, play him as high up the pitch as possible. I think the problem was not having enough protection behind him, so when he lost the ball we were in trouble. Now we have have Lokonga with Doucoure behind him it will give him more freedom to do what he does best.

Sensible.

I'd be happy to start Eze on the left with a solid midfield behind him that'd compensate for his defensive weaknesses.

I was pleased when we finally switched to 4231 as Decoure was crying out for help.

With the two January additions I actually think we'd be ok to return to 433 as we have dynamic and energetic midfielders that can both help Decoure but also progress the ball forwards.

I'd be happy to play:

-------Edouard------
----Eze -------Olise
Hughes Doucouré Lokonga

Plus the defence obviously

That was exactly the line up i picked on another thread, Hughes and Lokonga can cover the fullbacks, when the attack is on their side, which leaves Eze and Olise further up the pitch, especially as Andersen is such a great passer.

its basically 4-3-3 with three holding Midfielders and let the creative playes do their thing

Yes it'd provide extra protection and would be quite balanced but that middle 3 I'd say are more than just holding midfielders as they'd be combative, energetic and can pick a pass, which is not a combination we had when playing any of Eze, Schlupp and Ayew alongside Doucouré earlier on in the season. We also now have Ahamada who I think could also slot into that midfield 3 quite well.

We'll see if this formation comes back around, possibly when the run of fixtures becomes a little more favourable.

I don't like to criticise Ayew because he's such a trier but whatever he adds with his hold up play 5 goals in his last 96 games just isn't enough. Is he really just in the team to run until he gets fouled?

I'd slightly mod that based on difficulty of games. Assuming Wilf is fit also.

Hard games:

---------Wilf------
----Eze -------Olise
Hughes Doucouré Lokonga

Neither CF really helps hold the ball up to enable us to get out. So I'd rather Wilf up there. Olise and Eze have shown that they can release and find him quickly on the break.

'Easy' games:

-------Edouard------
-Wilf----Eze -----Olise
---Doucouré Lokonga

Assuming we are going to have more ball and need to break defences down.

Whilst Ebs doesn't always perform for 90 mins, its clear that we are more potent with him in the team. As lots have said, the theory is that with 2 decent CM's we've got the cover to hopefully get the best out of him.

Agree not a great stat, but Olise has scored 4 in 50 league games so it is partly that the wide players don't contribute enough goals, regardless of who plays there.
