Would Stirlingsays be able to talk us through why gated communities are a long term disaster. I remember suggesting it would be my preference but I was intelligently advised of the societal problems from gated communities. I think Hrolf May have replied to me as well. Won’t necessarily stop it happening here though. If it benefits the few, right now, who cares about implications in Britain?
Moving beyond the reasons why we are here with higher crime and murder rates we can look at where we are in terms of house price segregation and where we are heading with eventual gated communities. People with money are able to create the environment they want and hence as the social policies continue to fail more of those with money will simply create their own physical barriers.....For the social liberals among them it means that they can continue with their filtered la la land from there. However, gated communities can only be temporary. If you think about it they won't survive long term. They are a reaction to unpleasant reality not a solution to it. As population numbers expand and pressure increases what has happened in history will just repeat itself....a lack of social cohesion allied to increasing wealth inequality will mean eventually gated or not those walls will come a tumbling down. This country was lost back in the sixties.....Powell was right and we are just watching it in slow motion. In terms of what I think the best course of action is....Don't be poor.....and there is strength in numbers. So do what all those non racists do and move to Essex. But longer term....I don't really want to think about it and we need the picture to be clearer......maybe automation will come and save the neo liberals via universal basic income or make it even worse....we will have to see.

Everywhere has good and bad areas. Can you not acknowledge that the knife crime is a problem? Perhaps you would like to live in a security compound in Cape Town and say 'nothing to see here' whilst everytime you drive you need a shotgun on the passenger seat to deter robbers? It’s just not though, is it? People driving around with shotguns? When were you last in London?

Just Google " 340,000 leave left London " and you will find dozens of news articles from the ONS statistic. The middle classes are leaving , the poor are arriving to replace them. The numbers are a big jump up from 5 or 10 years previously.

The worst of it are the decent but poor who feel trapped in those inner cities and surrounding areas. It's like the nice but dim ones trapped in low set badly behaved classes.

Just read the article about the sentencing of the murder on the train just outside Guildford last year. The murder has a string of convictions for carrying and offensive weapon and a previous conviction for stabbing his flat mate. I keep saying the biggest problem is not lack of police on the street, it’s simply that we don’t send people to prison. If you stab someone, it should automatically be attempted murder and result in 15 years in prison. No excuses for self defence. The defendant was already carrying a knife ffs! A minimum of 28 years sense out a strong message, just a shame we don’t do this before people get killed.
