At this stage I see no risk. The Watford game is a one off with a break to follow. We have adequate cover in defence with Dann, Kelly and Ward; there is competition for midfield and forward positions. Go for it I say! Totally agree. At thd moment we have to fit one extra game in before the end of the season. If we beat Watford that means 2 extra games in the last 12 weeks of the season. Surely not that bad....

There's a real argument those three deserve the game time anyway. They have got us this far after all. All three are very competent premier league players who are being kept out of the first team by three exceptional players. Originally posted by leejaneagles
Exactly. If we're 7 points clear then prioritise the cup and vice versa. We can live without Zaha, Luka and Sakho for one Prem game if we're well adrift from the relegation fight. If we are still treading water though just play the balanced second string (Ward, Dann, Kelly etc) and hope it's enough to make it through to the semi-final. It could well be enough anyway, they aren't useless.

Errm....is winning the next match (cup or league or whatever)really that important?
Winning isn't everything. Without the defeats we would not value the victories. Still, it's a shame we can't play Chelsea every week. |

I travel over 200 miles every home game to watch us stutter in the Prem. Three home wins all season means I'm averaging around 900 miles per victory! For 45 years of watching Palace, my dream is for us to win a major trophy...and I would drive around the world for that.

that is necessary and part of the game, extra FA Cup ties, force fixture congestion, which often means you play on Saturday or Sunday and then again on Tuesday or Wednesday, which is all fine when you are safe from relegation. You only have to look at our form in the second half of season when we got to our last FA Cup final and had if not been for the form pre Christmas that season we would have almost certainly been relegated because we did nothing in the second half of the season and were very lucky to stay up. Remember we are just three points above the drop zone, hardly comfortable and for me PL survival is more important than a day out at a cup final in May!

There was absolutely no correlation between our cup run and our abysmal league form which continued way into the following season.

Aside from United or City the worst draw we could have had. They're safe, been strong at home all season, cynical and can bully teams when they want and have Delofeou and one of the best GKs in the prem. Also been good at the mind games with our best player. Unless we find eight or nine points between now and the game then it's hard to feel we can have a proper go at it. Field a youth team then? Just to be sure we prevent any injuries or overload our players with 2 games a week....?

Let's be objective: relegation isn't dependent on a FA cup quarter final against Watford. Rather, relegation is determined by a team's form in the league over a whole season. Here we have arguably been lacking - overly defensive tactics, goal opportunities squandered, sole striker issue not fixed until January, poor scouting and recruitment (Sorloth 9m ?). Fortunately these are lessons from which a lot can be learned, and we seem in good shape currently. Edited by southnorwoodhill (21 Feb 2019 11.50am)

Fair point. I'd trust Roy's decision on this, knowing he sees stuff we don't in terms of player fatigue, etc. Results between now and the cup game are also critical to how we'll line up. Point I'm making is it wouldn't be a weak line-up if those three were to play. They're solid players. Originally posted by spartakev2

Another team eg. a Championship side might have taken full advantage. No we are in the quarters we MUST play our strongest line-up.
