If just £20 million of that investment had gone to a striker... One player up top, that's all we needed to polish off a decent squad. We're like a Ferrari with only 3 wheels.

But there are no guarantees. Wickham was that striker and got injured. Benteke was that striker for 1 year and then lost all confidence. Ayew has scored 7 league goals in a season twice for worse teams. He should have been that 10 goal striker for us. Not great bur probably ensuring survival

I think wilf is losing heart in a club where the chairman has no ambition. He wilbe off in January.

Sadly this club has become the "cult of Wilf" where he is expected to save every situation and every game. Not possible, it's a team game and the sooner we get back to that the better.

He'll be off at the end of the season.

Perhaps a better spirit shown by the team today but the same old problems.

Can anyone tell me why Sorloth was on our bench?

If Ayew is ever a 10 goal a season striker in this league then I'm probably an 11 goal striker in this league and I haven't played for a few years

disagree for a few season we have needed another 4-5 players to now say only need a striker is false just look at today bench.

A striker would help a lot but we need a lot more theres no cover for Townsend/Zaha and we are missing a player with brain in middle of the park.

Instead of which we have several players in the middle of the park who are missing a brain

Benteke and Ayew are not being used correctly

Both those do not work under Roy system.

Remember this happened to Benteke before then Sam came in and changed attacking focus which got Benteke firing again some players just don't adapt to other style it proved this when he was at Liverpool.

Ayew is more of attacking midfield or just behind striker he can't play the chasing around closing down game thats defensive forwards game like shane long who does great at it but hardly scores

Sitting in my bar in Plaka I am a bit bewildered. We played well in the first half. Had the bar not got in the way we would hav3 been 2-0 up and IMO home and dry.

The second half predictably the Spammers were much better and we were worse. Trying to play thru a crowded middle when we have two decent wingers and NO striker.

We will be okay IF we get a decent striker this January. Ayew and Sorlth are not up,to it.

In the meantime Zaha misses next week. Mind you it has been a while since he has had a memorable match!

Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time!

It's all just getting boring and repetitive now.

Hodgson starts the same XI every match so the opposition know exactly what's coming and can prepare for it easily. Never makes a sub until it's too late to save the game.

For all the moaning about our lack of options, none of them ever get a chance. Sorloth gets slated on here but he's barely had a sniff. He's made 15 appearances for us in the league from a possible 29 games but only played 521 minutes. So on average he gets half an hour every second game to impress and people wonder why he looks short of confidence and form when he does play!

Roy continues to persevere with this Zaha and Townsend up front idea despite it very obviously removing all our width and nullifying any aerial threat that we might have.

He'll say after the game that you can't legislate for wonder goals but the brutal reality is that we've been comprehensively outplayed in consecutive games by teams that we should be aiming to beat. Even our dominance over Burnley was tainted for me by our utter lack of a cutting edge.

Ultimately in this league if you rest on your laurels and don't continue to invest then you get left behind and that appears to be what's happened, with Roy already hinting that there's no money for January, with us seemingly content to regurgitate the fact that we spent money 2 years ago.

Got punished for 2 lapses of concentration. Someone should have gone with chicorito from thd freekick, and someone should have been closer to Anderson. Sadly in both cases I think it was AWB. Apart from that I thought we defended well and scored a couple. WH didn't have that many chances but have the players to take them. How many goals do you think chicorito would score in our side....

Safe to say, unless we buy somebody who can score a goal, we’ll be the unluckiest side to ever be relegated from the Premier League. Spineless tw@s

Hodgson really is clueless - surely you'd bring Sorloth on even though he has a poor record.

I totally agree with this,we scored from a set piece.

Sørloths height could've been an option.

Hodgson can't have long left surely.
