I think most CBs would also tell you that you can't just assume something like that and if the ball is there, you deal with it. They were both at fault.

WH isn't great, but it was an off day at the back from the start yesterday. The passage of play where they hit the post twice, the chance the left winger had when he sliced it wide, Deeney's header.

That was all with Guaita in goal. We could easily have been two down in the first ten minutes.

Tomkins has been briliant, but he seemed terrified of Deeney and had no idea how to deal with him.

The second one was a great finish, dive or not. Again, the defence had the chance to deal with it and didn't.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

You obviously are not or wasn’t a CB then, because as a CB you stick with your man and attack the ball, your keeper can be surrounded by players pushing and shoving and can’t always claim the ball, if he gives you a shout, THEN you leave it. You certainly don’t expect it and hope for the best

He’s a reserve goalkeeper for a team that’s fighting relegation every year , not very good but probably similar to other teams back up keepers, that are around us.

I like to see a goalkeeper dive even if he’s not going to get near the ball - after all, it is the entertainment industry.

However, I wouldn’t blame him too harshly for either goal

The first was obviously a bit of a wind-assisted freak and the second was probably beyond reach.

Wayne is much improved over the past couple of seasons and has been a good servant.

Trying to make him a scapegoat is unfair - in fact it’s downright naff.

Thought Luka had a bit of a mare with his header. Clearly he didn't mean to put it there judging by the way he approached it. Tomo would also be disappointed with the first. Even with a dodgy defensive display could easily of come away with a point.

Unfortunately what I said about him last season seems accurate - he doesn't command his 6 yard box. For such a big fellow he should be the boss in that area. Don't know how much coaching it may need, but if it is not there then there's nothing that can be done. Perhaps he's too nice. Needs to let out his other self during match days and bollock the guys in front of him.

One mistake and the hate-brigade are out in force. Yes, it was a bad error and cost us the goal, but was no worse that VG's poor attempt to save Chelsea's goal or the total embarrassment of De Bruyne's goal at Man City, yet there's no thread criticising him. A comment in the match thread post would surely have sufficed.

People really will excuse him for anything. Guaita claims that all day long, no drama. He gets caught out of position and watches it sail over him. Bottom half Championship keeper that should never have lasted this long here. Even people saying his distribution is good - f me sideways is it. Guaita claims the ball and looks to quickly release it. Sometimes it works, sometimes his kicks are off target. Wayne waits for the opposition to get settled into their shape and no one from our side making runs forward then boots it up to the non existent target man. Chance for a counter gone.

also my previous post was a) a joke and b) photoshopped by someone on twitter. Different crowd I guess...

Hope Guaita is fit again soon as he is different class to WH who was badly at fault with Watford’s first goal !

Our goalkeeping coach can't be up to much then

You may find Guaita a better goalkeeper fair enough, but to defend his distribution is an odd thing. He is horrible with his feet. And yes, without an areal presence, ie Benteke, WH's long balls may often be in vain but they are in any case far better the Guaita's.It has been luck more then anything else we have not yet conceded from his poor distribution. I'd go as far as calling it a problem in a team that often does not play it out from the back, if he can't improve it that is.
