We could see some massive figures on defenders this time. Both Liverpool and City could be after Chilwell and Maguire might also be a City target. Leicester will play hard ball for sure. It’s been a couple of seasons since Shaw went for 30 and hats probably the current benchmark. If that happens then that could help drive AWBs price up too. I see 50 as the likely breaking point. Not quite what Parish wanted but too much to say no to. Trouble is of course it’ll happen on the last day and so we won’t get to replace him. Originally posted by Maine Eagle
150 million quid for a defender. Good grief. Honestly if United came in at 50 mil I would sell the lad, he is a fantastic prospect but there is no way we can keep him for 5 more years. That should mean we can play hard ball on Zaha and keep him at Palace for many years to come.

If AWB leaves to a big club then this might possibly make Wilf's departure more likely as I couldn't see how Palace could stand in his way. We will be lucky to keep 1 at our place this summer, with both gone by next I suspect. The worse case scenario is both going at the same time and this summer. Happened to Swansea with Llorente and Sigurdsson and they were relegated that season.

It would be a big statement from the club if they were to offer AWB a big contract for 5 years. If it's true he is on 15k per week then we need to address that and make it clear he's staying. Personally I think the club will look to drive the price up and will then sell him. If we do sell him then we should get Wilf to choose his replacement, as it was him who raved about AWB before he got promoted to the first team.

We shouldn't be selling anyone until we have their replacements in place FIRST

After £75 million for Van Dijk, and with AWB looking like he could become one of the best right-backs in world football, £50 million is going to look like a foolish offer to take in a few years.

He is gold dust and anyone thinking they can get our players on the cheap can think again. The tapping up shenanigans that the bigger clubs do doesn’t work like it used to along with the agents stirring things up. The slapping on of a 70 million fee will also have the desired effect.

toward the end of the season, AWB was backing off more and to me looked a slightly less assured defender as a consequence. his passing also needs to increase a notch and he can't deliver a whipped cross, something that sets great full backs apart. he's a wonderful prospect but would benefit greatly from another year at Palace.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

I only mentioned to a supporter on Sunday that in my humble opinion AWB is still very much a work in progress and that another season in our team wouldn't do him any harm at all.

Are you trying to say that we are merely a proving ground for another team? It makes it sound like we don’t deserve to have finished article players at Palace, just those passing through.

What I am saying is that in my humble opinion he is not the finished article and if he didn't depart in pre-season but stayed with us, this could benefit him as he could continue his development at his local club with fans who are fully behind him rather than go to a bigger club and be put under greater pressure which of course could hinder his progress. He is only 21 and relatively inexperienced.
