Losing to a championship side in the 4th round for the second season running, with a Wembley trip more than possible, makes me wonder why bother with the League Cup at all? If our normal team had played, we would probably have won. Chelsea and Man City take it seriously so we, and the rest of the clubs, should also. The FA Cup is also turning into a Mickey Mouse competition as well. Might as well play the youth team and be done with it!

Relegation battle and no chance of Wembley or silverware. The usual season then.

Disagree. Our squad is very thin and if we tire or injure our first-team players in the cups, then we'd be looking at some of the dross from last night to fill their boots. It will be a while before we've got the squad and the security in the league to contemplate taking the cups seriously.

unlikely, we would have needed to score two goals and that is beyond them at the moment and has been for sometime now!

Couldn't believe how awful we looked last night. Boro were quite happy to sit back and watch us pass it aimlessly across field. It was slow, laborious, turgid rubbish and when we did get a chance to cross, the final ball was awful. The Boro (reserve) keeper will not have an eaiser game all season. Don't get me started on Sorloth either - I thought from the moment he came on as sub at Chelski last year he looked out of his depth and nothing I have seen since has given me any reason to change that opinion. I very much doubt he would even make it in the Championship.

Last night showed (if it wasn't blatantly obvious already) that the gulf between our First 11 and the back ups is massive, the fact Puncheon is a CM for us is embarrassing. It may also answer some questions as to why Roy refuses to make any subs in league games, the bench is simply not good enough bar Meyer.
Once Luka came on, the game changed in our favour and possession was kept, whilst also looking more promising going forward and with Meyer pushed further up the pitch we created more – he could possibly take McCarthur’s role as he’s a little more creative with Luke and Kouyate behind?
Our first 11 is good enough for the PL and will give anyone in this league a good game, it’s just a shame each year we fail to add any players who can really challenge and put pressure on the current first 11.

England under Hodgson had a similar look.

9 wasted corners. We haven't looked dangerous at corners since Scotty Dann got injured and we rarely retain possession from our own throwins.

Very true. This season I have noticed that generally, not just from corners, how rarely we seem to win the ball when it is crossed into the the opposition penalty area.

Our squad/fringe players inevitably disappoint when given the opportunity to shine just proving how poor they are in general.
We have a squad of maybe 12 or 13 good players with a similar number of has beens/ never will bes in reserve.
To say Roy’s options are limited is an understatement.

Strange not to see PVA and Kouyate, (unless injured ?) start as per West Brom instead of Souare and Ayew. Would then of been the starting WBA line up, bar Ward. Neither Sorloth or Ayew are good enough in their respective roles to play up front together. Seemed to have a weaker starting 11 than the previous round.

That was the final insult for me. Just a step or two away from goal and a jump to head it was all it needed. He did neither.

The whole game was woeful however.

Similar happened at WBA in the first half I seem to remember when a good ball came over and he didn't attack the cross producing a weak header right at the goalie. This seems a better chance than last night and he looked very weak in the air on that occasion. Looks neither a bully in the air or decent on the ground. Seem to of spent a lot of money on a striker that can hold the ball up fairly well.
