Sometimes we are right and sometimes wrong, l am delighted to have been corrected by the man himself, his goal shuts me up in one great stuff Connor long may it continue and in Palace colours, now all we need is Benteke conversion as well miracles do obviously happen, COYP!!!! LOL. Fair one. I didn't even think it was your comment. It was also a combination of the knocking Wickham and knocking the need for Speroni to still be with us that made me chuckle. Nobody is right all of the time, I thought we were gonna lose by a couple of goals yesterday. I didn't think Wickham would ever properly return from injury, and to be honest I don't think we can say that is the case until he's got 20-30 games uninjured under his belt, but do think he can be an excellent player and goalscorer if he can stay fit. Never in doubt that Speroni was more than capable to step up to the mark of required and I don't believe that he's ever been a worse player than Hennessey or Mccarthy and didn't warrant being replaced by either of them, Guaita could be a different matter though. The difference with Wickham is that even when he doesn't score his movement, availability and hold up play is good. He gets into the right areas too, and draws defenders out to create space. Glad to have him back, really hope he stays fit. This (along with the rest tbf).

This (along with the rest tbf). Spot on. Might of been an easy finish but he was right where we needed a player and as you say been sorely missing.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Should Connor Wickham have gone on loan this Jan.?' by bexleydave There are now 4 center forwards (Bathsuayi, Benteke, Jordan Ayew and Wickham) in a team that usually plays with just 1 center forward, with Bakary Sako or Zaha able to play there too. Considering that Batshuayi was brought as a saviour, Benteke was prefered by Hodgson before and Jordan has scored some goals lately, I don't think Wickham will make the 18 squad a lot in the rest of the season. Even if one of the above gets injured, there are other options than Wickham, who comes after 650 days of inactivity. He could have gone on loan to a Championship club for the next 6 months, keeping him in the squad without gametime until the summer seems like a mistake.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Should Connor Wickham have gone on loan this Jan.?' by bexleydave How do you guess that Benteke is preferred over Wickham? The two haven't both been fit at the same time since Roy joined. After all, Wickham started against Spurs not Benteke.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Should Connor Wickham have gone on loan this Jan.?' by bexleydave Roy was known for his refusal to adapt from a 442 until this season. Given the personnel available to him now he may well revert back to a 442, which may help us score more and would mean we need 3 proper strikers (Ayew is not a striker). I think we need to keep Wickham here so that we can decide what his body is capable of. If he goes on loan he may convince the manager he is more ready for regular football than he actually is and end up crocked again. If he stays fit I think he can be an important player.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Should Connor Wickham have gone on loan this Jan.?' by bexleydave If he goes to the Championship on loan he'll come back injured within a month. He's nowhere near ready to play week-in-week-out yet. Best thing for him is to keep training with us and s l o w l y build up his playing minutes each month. Don't expect much from him this season, get him ready to start next season.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Should Connor Wickham have gone on loan this Jan.?' by bexleydave Depends entirely on formation. If we are playing 1 striker, I fail to see how Wickham can get the regular week in week out game time that any player needs after 2 years crocked. After RH went cap in hand to Parish for a striker I don’t think sending one out was on the agenda. However it is clear as RH has said as much that their opinion of Wickham now is he is a bonus, and cannot be relied on. Thinking here might be if he makes it through unscathed this year wrapped in cotton wool, then next season he can be trusted to be a regular starter and not be missing constantly through injuries, when we probably don’t have Batshuayi anymore.
