See London and New York. Probably the two best cities in the world all in all.

I'll raise you Rome, Vancouver and Montreal just off the top of my head Kermit. Look beyond the shrines to financial services and you will see inner London for the festering, class-divided, oppresive karzie that it truly is.

Rome, for all its density and lack of living space, retains a depth of grace, soul and balance that London can only dream of. I'd emigrate there or to VAN / MTL in a heartbeat if I had no kids.

I can only go by the cities I have been to, of course. Probably around 50-60. But I do know Vancouver does have horrendous homeless and drug addict problems at the moment. Plus, it pisses down a lot which can't be nice when your trousers are already soaking in wee.

London you could easily do something different 365 days a year with what is on offer and not many cities can boast that. Then there is the history and parks and architecture, etc.

Don't tell me to piss off.

Sometimes Nick you are deeply pathetic and the other times just pathetic.

If this country had been led by people like you, we'd all still be living in caves and begging for food from other countries.

You can also do that in Vienna, Munich, Berlin and many other European cities. Cities with real community and soul - both of which London doesn't have. London is like a big version of Heathrow, most people waiting to arrive or leave but no one actually staying to invest socially in the place. That's why it's a cold, aggressive and transitory city with no real community spirit.

Well, that's one way of looking at it......Not really fair at all for a city that attracts massive amounts of tourism from around the world, lots to do in London....but hey.

Saying, London is like a big version of Heathrow....that was funny...there's a gram of truth in that.

Granted there are soulless places in London and yes it does seem like a lot of people are leaving and not as many coming, unless its to make the mosty out of our weak pound for a while.
London is too big to have a one community feel, but I feel part of my local community Im sure millions of others do. I think yer selling the capital a bit cheap there. But it is in danger of turning into another Venice in places.

Nick, did you not know, you can only be patriotic and like living in the UK if you are a right wing nationalist with a small socialist bent, abhor immigrants (basically anyone not ethnically white English)but nowadays dress it up as secularism ,and rabbit on about free speech when it suits, but are in practice extremely intolerant.

Get it straight,man!

Why don't you just come out and say that the white working and middle classes disgust you?

Your sneering contempt for them is palpable.

Another progressive de facto accusing me of racism. It's not as though I haven't stated my position on race ad nauseam. It doesn't matter with these types. Go ahead, I no longer care about your labels of lies.

You guys just worsen the intellectual environment for everybody.

I see your fellow 'racism' travelers have seen the women's football manager resign just now.

Personally, yes. I'd let any number of people die, to protect my own family and loved ones. And not just immigrants. But that's why policy and law can't be determined on personal emotions - the rules have to be fair.

Everything is determined with emotion as its backdrop. Even reason itself is used to achieve goals whose motive is emotional.

Indeed it is your emotional make up that mostly determines your political slant. That's why temperaments and upbringings feed into who you become politically.

I'm interested though.....why do the 'rules' have to be fair? Rules aren't fair in pretty much most world realities. Why here?

Asylum, if we go to source though, can be made to work for the UK in a way the current system doesn't. If you can select from the camps and refugees crossing the border, you can pick and choose the best candidates rather than just those who turn up on the door step.

It also creates a reasonable grounds for refusing most Asylum claims 'at the border' of the UK and returning people to the point of transit to the UK (i.e. refusing them entry - which is a lot easier than dealing with denied claimants later)

Asylum is something I support as a necessary concept for a democratic state's self image.

However, when it comes to taking in Islamic refugees...again, I would only take the safe options....secular/cultural Muslims.

This country has far too much social conservatism as it is.
