Economies follow Central Banking (The Fed in your case) policy. They release funds and the economy (despite the NEWLY CREATED DEBT) appears to do well. They stop the flow, the economy does not so well. A quick google will show you the correlation between QE by the Fed and the performance of the Dow (S&P also).
Yes, Congress/whoever may well levy taxes etc but these have a very small effect on the performance of any given economy.

The fact that someone was killed today after you posted this and Trump chose to give an incredibly wishy washy condemnation goes a fair way to validating your post. It's true that he's done a bare minimum to distance himself from open far right support and it's unhelpful to say the least.

It's not a pleasant or stable time in the states, in part due to the politics climate, but then some would argue it'd gone too far in the other direction previously with people screaming 'cultural appropriation' at everything and anything and the like.

My personal hope is that there is a realignment once Trump is gone, where people as a whole thrash things out and get things done. By then, they will likely realise the true cost of not doing so. Sensible times require sensible people.
