When someone makes that hard decision to leave the club, for perfectly good reasoning, that decision should be respected and his legacy is that he did what he came to the club with and that was to do his best to ensure survival in the Premier League.
I say Thanks and good luck in your future and enjoy more time with your family!

I don't think that there are that many managers that I would fancy. In fact most names fill me with dread.

Two that I would not mind seeing at Palace would be Eddie Howe/Sean Dyche. I think they could do a job but it will be nigh on impossible to prise them away from their respective clubs (but if we were to take them away then both these clubs would probably implode and go down - so would serve two purposes !).

Failing this - I would not be adverse to offering to Sammy Lee to provide some degree of continuity. Give him 6mths if it's not looking good then maybe we can prise SA out of retirement for a temporary attachment !

First choice Sean Dyche followed by Silva for me.

Windsor Eagle is echoing my thoughts - a decent French manager with a good command of English is definitely an option to pursue. We are one of most accessible clubs from France and a French manager could help secure the better French players to the club.

I think we have to go with a foreign manager and this could be a good suggestion, or a "good track record" French speaking manager again such as Lucien Favre, simply because we have so many French speaking players. There has been no mention of the status of Sammie Lee so I hope he will give continuity of a kind, although he would be most definitely a wild card as he has little experience in transfer windows.

Hope Sammy Lee is not considering a family future, but we keep him at any cost. New manager? No Ranieri please, with him staying put at Leicester they would have gone down. Dyche, Silva or Howe for me!!

Dyche or someone like that who is prepared to stay and build. Someone whose managerial style fits with getting the defense right first.

Not sure if anyone on here's mentioned him as I haven't read through all posts but If Huddersfield don't get promoted I'd take a punt on David Wagner. Done amazing job there.
Heard him in interviews and talks a lot of sense. Klopps assistant at Dortmund and plays good football.
With limited choice worth a punt

I am thinking about player recruitment and retention when considering who I'd like. I am just not convinced by Ranieri or Dyche in that regard.

Dyche seems like a poor man's Allardyce/Pulis -- although I could be wrong in that regard. There's just something about Ranieri that has never convinced me.

However good they are, I'm unconvinced a manager from the lower leagues could walk in and make Wilf say "yeah. This guy can take my game on and lift the team far up the league."

Which means foreign in my book.

I don't know a lot about Nagelsmann at Hoffenheim, but he's very young and he turned a relegation threatened Hoffenheim into the 4th best team in Germany without (I think) spending huge.

So for me he has the sort of profile where Wilf might be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

A foreign manager also has a chance of knowing foreign talent.

Btw, much as I love Wilf, my real thinking is that if a new manager can inspire HIM to stay, then they're all going to at least give that guy the benefit of the doubt. Maybe.

Laurent. Blanc for me unfairly sacked at psg in 2016. He knows Cabaye and even Sakho and could help us move to the next level.

Brendan Rodgers for me. A manager with a possession philosophy and let's face it he's made the spl look a bigger joke then it already did. Maybe could bring dembele with him

I'm interested to know why so many fans want silva. He was relegated this season. Didn't achieve any wins on the road. He lost at home to Sunderland and in his last 2 games conceded 11 goals. I personally think we need more of a denfensive coach that can put a structure into place to work from. This is what these players respond to. We need a tactian rather than a maverick. Raneri would be a disaster. Personally think Coleman will probably get the job this time.

It's a fair question. I think it was a miracle that he got them in a position where they could have stayed up in the first place. The conditions he worked under were ridiculously tough but he knew this when he took the job so obviously likes a challenge. Elsewhere his record is tremendous.
