According to the last census only sixty percent of people in England call themselves English. Well, I'm English, always was and always will be.....And we are too full, so some of them should bugger off to 'insert country here' if they don't consider themselves as English. Too many here fleecing off the back of the English economy.

I am delighted that you all have put petty political point scoring aside. Well said Matt, even the politicians have managed to stop campaigning for 24 hrs.

It isn't. It's up to the individual of course but I don't think it is unreasonable either way if someone who was born here does or doesn't call themselves English when their parents aren't.

If your parents were raised elsewhere but you weren't....well you don't have to consider yourself English no...that's fair....Well there are exceptions but all things being normal if you don't eventually leave and go and settle where you do call yourself....Well I think there is a certain amount of convenience and hypocrisy about that.....It's ripe for criticism. It's a part of the devaluing of nationality. Not for me. Edited by Stirlingsays (23 May 2017 7.51pm)

Edited by Stirlingsays (23 May 2017 7.51pm) Well, your geographical home does not have to reflect your sense of who you are 100% which is why we have London born Cypriots and suchlike still calling themselves 'Cypriot'. Perfectly acceptable in my book due to their very strong family and cultural ties with the place. It will dilute over time as new generations appear which again is entirely reasonable. I wonder how many third or fourth generation Windrush descendents would not think of themselves as English by now? Not many i would guess. You will be pleased to know my Exeter-born children, even though i do my best to instill(brainwash) their jock heritage, are unmoved by that as it stands
