I don't think he's worth 7m and he's not had enough game time recently for anyone to be saying he's an upgrade on Ward. Ward has been poor recently but no more of a let down than Dann has been. Given an extended run in his preferred position I can't see why Ward can't find his form again. Of all the positions on the first team I'd say right back is the least important to strengthen. Left back and centre mid are far more important.

Agreed, far more important. But we do at least need better back up for Ward, and decent competition from Jenkinson will bring out the best in Ward, and vice versa. We obviously need these deals to cross the line, and settling personal terms isnt easy. But if we got Jenkinson, PVA/Brady plus a good DM, then that would represent great business in January.

You do need back up but Tomkins can play right back and in more desperate times Kelly can also. 7m for a player short on fitness, match time and confidence and then to hear he wants more money than we are willing to offer him...it would be a no from me.

I think the fact he can play RWB is more of a reason why he's being considered. But for £7m and demanding high wages then it would be a no from me too.

I think this one will happen at the death. Geezer is just having to accept in his own mind he's not as good as he thought he was and that it's in his best interests to take a pay cut. Because if he rots in theur reserves then his next pay cut will be even bigger. Don't see others queuing up. Obviously they may be lurking but my gut feel is we need him and he needs us in roughly equal measure.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

It is in the clubs best interests to let it come out because the club can claim it did its best and the player is greedy - this sort of news management happens all the time. Is it any less true that he wants to come but Palace are baulking over a transfer rather than a loan?

Wenger himself was quoted as saying that its agreed between the clubs its just the personal terms that need to be sorted. Short of him doing a Lombardo and wanting a butler etc, what other than wages is there for him to agree?? and is this for a loan or permanent switch?
Clinton is Clinton. I have known him for a long time, I know his mother... Simon Jordan |

Signing fee, bonuses, buy out clause, sell on clause, relegation clause etc etc. The greedy ****s want it all these days which is why so few transfers seem to happen quickly anymore.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

If the clubs have agreed a loan deal and the player wants a permanent move then there would bemore to discuss than personal terms. I am not saying you are wrong I am just saying I am not sure we know the facts Mind you I hadn't seen this when I originally posted.

My understanding is that we have offered him the same £40,000pw that he currently gets but far from taking a cut he actually wants a pay rise for the privilege of actually playing football for a change
